Has anyone else had an issue upon receiving this item with hooking it up to a monitor? I've tried the hdmi and vga ports and neither seem to be working. (i've tested the monitor on other computers that's not the problem.) It didn't come with an install disc either, could that be the issue? Sorry if this sounds stupid, first desktop in 8 years...

Not a stupid question this is a high performance computer that can be more complicated than a typical desktop. Make sure you are plugging the monitor into the graphics card which will be the horizontal dvi ports. to locate the graphics card it should have (2) dvi ports an hdmi port and a display port. like i said these will all be horizontal on the back of the computer, below all of your other plug-ins like usb and ethernet (lan). A word of advice, if you are sending in the upc code from the box for the rebate, they will no longer accept it as a return if something breaks, we bought 2 of these for the office and one died a week after we got it hooked up.  We were asking for a return but since the upc code wasn't on the box the had to get special clearance from the RMA department which takes about 2 days, and in my case the 2 days is killing us as we transferred all work components to the new machine. A huge waste of time. Im currently contacting asus to get mine re-manufactured which could take up to 2 weeks. A major inconvenience

System information described it as DVD Writer. Checking my computer, it says BD-ROM.

I guess it is a blu-ray burner even though I haven't tried it.
