Pros: Replacing the gen one Asus chromebox (Celeron) with the 3rd gen (Core i3 8gb ram) for my 80+ grandfather. Chrome OS has allowed him to do a lot where the other OS's have failed. Very easy for him to navigate, secure, and difficult to break the OS where Windows and Linux would break or programs break. I can easily remote into his device for any minor fixes if needed also. The first gen was great but lacked a bit in horsepower. In my short time of stress testing with daily usage, the core I3 has plenty of power for multi tasking and web-based/google-playstore games. I had several tabs open while running an android game and everything was still buttery smooth. The fan did spin up faster but that's to be expected and even then it was still very quiet. Watching a 4k vid on YT was no problem for this unit either. The picture was beautiful with zero stuttering, buffering, or reductions in quality. Chrome OS keeps getting better with time. This device pairs great with the OS and isn't under powered at all unlike the first gen. I have a chromebook for on the go needs and it's capable of everything I need. I'm tempted to get this same chromebox for my daily use and school. This thing sips power and almost silent unlike my semi-loud and power hungry gaming rig.
Cons: None.
Overall Review: Something in the works is the ability to run Linux apps natively in ChromeOS if you need a little more functionality. I can confirm that I have the option to "Turn On" the Linux (beta) function. I didn't mess with it so that's all I can say about it. Lastly, I recommend the 8GB model for a little more money especially if you think you will do a lot of multi-tasking. Check RAM prices though. If the price jumps too much just upgrade it yourself.
