Awesome 12/1/2014 6:23:43 PM

Pros: Awesome laptop that i got 4 years ago and is still competing with my friends newly built computers! Its got a nice screen, its big, and its awesome.

Cons: Only problem is the speakers. They are small and are often quiet.

Decent Laptop Value 12/10/2011 10:04:06 AM

Pros: Never crashes. Does everything it's supposed to.

Cons: It does run hot when you push the graphics. But it's a laptop, so that's no surprise. I have 3 stuck pixels after 1.5 years. Sadly, they are all in a 3mm grouping.

Overall Review: EVERYONE HAVING KEYBOARD ISSUES, THIS IS THE SOLUTION:
Your missed keystrokes / typos are being caused by a compatibility issue with the Synaptics touchpad driver. There is no fix for this, except to unistall the driver and allow Windows to use the Microsoft generic touchpad driver. You will lose the ability to deactivate the touchpad from the laptop's front panel, but your keyboard woes will vanish.

Mostly Excellent 11/7/2011 9:19:00 AM

Pros: Worked wonderfully for a really good price. Able to play most of the games I wanted to quite well.

Cons: After owning this laptop for about a year and a half I began having the keyboard problem that is listed on here by a few others. The left side of the keyboard has intermittently started to skip key presses, especially the "e" key and space bar.

It gets pretty hot and has overheated on me once or twice while playing really intensive 3D games and the bottom of the laptop had less than usual ventilation.

ASUS G51J 7/11/2011 11:46:06 AM

Pros: Large hard drive space, numpad is nice, 2 year warranty is a plus, and backpack and mouse are also good.

Cons: This laptop has had tons of video issues. Its suppose to be a gaming laptop but almost every game i play it either crashes or has glitches. I believe the nvidia 360M card is a bogus model. Also linux installers glitch out on install due to graphix problems. This laptop also runs extremely hot even with a fan. There also aren't many upgrade parts available for the laptop.

Pros: Free Backpack and Mouse are nice...I like the numpad.

Cons: Runs very hot while watching video or playing games. Keyboard is extremely annoying. Have to mash the keys or it will miss characters. I've had the GPU fail on me on several occasions.

Nice Computer - Read On 11/11/2010 2:21:29 PM

Pros: Great looking computer, whether on or off! Super performance and specs. Super-responsive ASUS service/support.

Cons: LCD screen died after just 4 months.

Overall Review: Ironically, on the day I received an email from ASUS crowing about their being #1 in reliability, my daughter called from college to inform me the screen had a vertical bright blue line. An easy/quick Skype call to ASUS support lead to the suggestion to update the video driver to see if that would work. Alas, it did not, and a return Skype call to ASUS authorized an RMA for a suspected hardware failure. As with most things, you can read rants on the web, but I had a first-class experience all around. In ONE WEEK after shipment, the computer was back in my hands, with a new LCD. My only comment would be that the RMA web status was laggy, but I run into that virtually everywhere.

Bottom line: My having such an early failure was unfortunate, but I don't think you can extrapolate that to all ASUS products. ASUS made it right by great, responsive warranty support.

Running Hot and Fast 8/27/2010 1:34:15 AM

Pros: - i7 Processor is like lightning on High Performance, does well even on Battery Saver however
- Graphics are gorgeous and crisp, I get very good framerates during high intensity moments during gaming
- Keyboard is responsive but some buttons fell a bit strangely sized (such as the right shift and ctrl butons)
- LEDs in the keyboard are a nice touch
- NUM pad is a nice edition
- Plenty of RAM for all uses (though a faster bus speed would have been nice)
-Free RAZR Mouse is very sensitive and a nice gift
-Easily switch performance modes as well turn off the touchpad easily

Cons: - Runs very hot, left of the touchpad can get scalding
- Bloatware takes up 26% of RAM upon startup, however most of it is decently useful
- Prepartitioned hard drive can be annoying as you have to manually move files there, or link folders through the library.
- Sound is passable but not the best, and volume adjustment does it in strange increments
- Running the screen via VGA to an external screen causes tearing as well as scan lines for some reason (possible refresh rate, but that was matched to the screen rate)
- While the keyboard is very responsive, it sometimes manages to miss characters, though that could be because I don't press hard enough when I'm typing very quickly.
- Dust and fingerprint magnet
- Quite a bit bulky, use as a more portable desktop.

Overall Review: It took a while to get used to the larger screen and greater amount of pixels (which created smaller text) but it was well worth the price. Free backpack and mouse easily added value to the laptop (which I suppose weren't really free). Though it can run very hot and such, it does it's job well. I would give it a 4.7/5 if I could, but I'll be rounding up.

Not Bad 8/25/2010 6:22:50 PM

Pros: It runs nicely, dissapates average heat, came with a free mouse and backpack!

Cons: Esata is not powered Esata inlet, Not USB 3.0.

Overall Review: I thought that my external hard drive would work more efficiently with this system, but it works the same. Beware of external hard drives that run slow like WD Passport. Seagate go flex is much quicker and runs good on this system.. Wish I had usb 3.0 or powered esata inlet to boost the speed higher.
