Question 1

is this the best option to replace a wireless modem? 
I have a modem that was provided by the service provider and I have one too many devices in the house. I was wondering if I can swap it for this router?

This is NOT a cable modem.  It has an Ethernet port (a regular network cable) on the WAN side (the input from your internet provider).  So if you get your internet from a cable company through a regular coax cable, then you will still need a cable modem.  If your service is something like FIOS that comes in as just an Ethernet wire, then you can 'probably' just plug right into this (assuming your service provider runs DHCP, or you know your IP address, and you don't need their box for a phone wire, etc.)

That said, BUY THIS ROUTER, it is AWESOME.  And all will still be great even if you have to keep your cable modem between it and the outside world (like I do).

Is this compatible with CM 1200 netgear cable modem?

This router should work with any cable modem.  Cable modems and routers are responsible for different functions.  The cable modem brings the internet into the system and the router distributes the internet to all the users on the network.

I have two of these in AiMesh mode.  One of them was made in China and the other was made in Vietnam.  They are identical models, but the shipping label says where they were made.

How Do I add the 10 gigs and what is the 10 gig is this just wifi speed or is this real 10 gig speed as on name and picture also says adapter how do I add it?

10 gig is the wired speed - you need cat6 or better between the two areas you want to go that fast.  if you have a new wifi device (Galaxy S10, iPhone 11) with 802.11ax your best speed would be 4804 Mbps. (divide by 8 for real file size =601MB per sec)   the biggest bottleneck is your internet speed. If you have 100Meg internet, that is 100Mbps(divide by 8 for real file size =12.5MB per sec) i.e. 100Meg file takes 8 seconds, not 1 second to download, bits v/s bytes. I own this unit, it is bleeding edge and awesome.

Question 5

I know this supports Link Aggregation for LAN, but does this support WAN Aggregation?

In router mode the GT-AX11000 does have dual-WAN capabilities, yes. However, I have found that using the router mode significantly increases the overall latency and jitter of the device. Asus is constantly coming out with firmware updates for it, so it may be getting better, but I use Access Point (AP) mode, and noticed latency was cut about in half, and jitter is significantly reduced. So, if you had a modem or standalone router that provided Dual WAN functionality, that might be better.

And just to let you know for Dual WAN, you likely have two separate IP's (one for each physical connection/Service Provider), which is why it's called 'Dual' instead of aggregated. Aggregation (often referred to as Link Aggregation, or LAG using LACP) usually uses one IP for multiple physical connections.

Then what happens with Dual, is you use some type of 'Load Balance' methodology, and it looks like ASUS uses ratio. For example, 3:1 would mean that the primary WAN connection would be used 3 times more frequently than the secondary WAN connection. That is 3 packets out on primary to one packet out on secondary. It is impossible for a router with Dual connections to load balance the incoming traffic per WAN connection, that is because if you send out one request on your secondary, say a 'GET' command for a large file, that one 'GET' could require a lot of incoming data on that secondary connection, where the primary connection may have had just very small 'GET' requests. But overall, you should get pretty even data flows based upon your ratio, and if you put in 1:1 you should see roughly 50% on each both in and out, but don't be surprised to see 60/40 or 40/60, it can happen.

The other method I see here is primary/standby. This is, the secondary WAN circuit is not used unless the primary goes out, and you can set the delay for detection and failover/failback.

If you are looking to lower latency for games, fine use two providers, but use the failover feature, not load-balancing

Question 6

The description says "8 Gigabit" LAN ports.  I only see 4.  Did they just re-use the description from the RT-AC5300?

Yes, there are only 4x1Gig switch ports on the device. There is an additional WAN 1Gig WAN port. And there is a "special port" capable of "up to" 2.5Gig. I'm sure there are some thing items out there that can take full advantage of this 2.5Gig port, but I assume it will work at 1Gig as well, I have not tried. This means, it has 6 Ethernet ports, one dedicated to WAN, 4 for switching, and the 5th "special port" I believe will work as a normal switch port, but has additional features. They all have MDIX (which just means you can use a straight-thru Ethernet cable or cross-over cable, it will auto-detect). Here is the description of Ethernet ports from the Asus web site:

How many device can connect to this device?

DCHP allows for 254, wireless is limited by simultaneous usage.   4 in the 2.4 range, 2 sets of 4 in the 5 range so 12 wireless loads at the same time that are using bandwidth.  I have many wifi devices that barely use any bandwidth, like lights, security system, printers, vacuum.  I am sure I have over 50 things connected.

My motherboard has a 10G Ethernet Port. If in theory my ISP actually provided fast enough connections, would this be a bottleneck as it only has a 2.5G Ethernet port?

If you had 10Gbps Internet speed, it will happen for residential customers, and you used your 2.5Gb port for connectivity to the Internet, then yes, this port would be the bottleneck to this wireless router. But, your maximum wireless speed, and anything else connected via 1Gbps copper Ethernet is also limited by it's maximum connection speed. If you had several devices connected both wireless and wired, they would all share the WAN uplink, so if all devices were attempting to use the Internet at the same time and all were saturating their connection method, then yes, this 2.5Gbps port would be the bottleneck. 10Gbps copper Ethernet is available today, but mainly for commercial applications. I work with fiber and mostly 100Gbps, with 400Gbps coming, and to get layer 3 Internet backbone pipes up to 6 - 8 Tbps and more, we have LAGs that use multiple ports using the protocol LACP, and an equal cost load-balancing dynamic routing protocol usually BGP. There is consumer applications of LAGs as well using copper, to the best of my knowledge, this device does not use it. Remember, the biggest factor to how fast your connection is, if you don't use all your BW through your ISP, is latency. "Speed" of an Internet connection is usually measured in BW, NOT latency. Lets say you have 100Mbps and you don't use more than that at any one instant. Let's say your ISP has saturation issues from it's customer concatenation device to the backbone, increasing your latency to any Internet service, but your friend a couple miles away has 50Mbps and uses the exact same ISP, but connects via a different concatenation device that doesn't have the uplink saturation issues. He never uses more than 50Mbps, and therefore doesn't saturate his WAN connection. He has faster Internet than you based upon latency, and this is real and perceived speed, not BW. Many speed test services will tell you ping in ms, this is RTT latency, the lower the better/faster. Hope this helps.

Why is this item listed at a 10gb device, when the listed specs only show it as a 1gb max WAN and LAN connection?

The Router has 1 2.5 GB Ethernet plus 4 1 GB Ethernet ports.

Also, it has 3 Wi-Fi radios with 2 5 GHz and 1 2.4 GHz ratios with 2.4 Gbps and 1 Gbps.

So I assume they are adding up those devices..  You can go to the ASUS site and see the specs..  I can't include a link..

I'm not sure, but I set up an ASUS mesh system with two of these.  They are very powerful routers and hooking two of them together--I did it wired--was quite easy.
