Will this card run on PCI Express 2.0 motherboard?
(ASRock 990FX Extreme3).
Will any 3.0 PCI Express card run on 2.0 motherboards?

The PCI Express settings too advanced for current MOBO ratings.
According to PCI-SIG:
"PCIe 2.0 is intended to be 100% forward compatible. Any PCIe 2.0 card should work in any PCIe 1.x motherboard. Again the link speed will be limited by the slower part, and will have to clock down to the slower PCIe 1.x speed."

Question 2

I know this sounds really unintelligent and I sound like I don't know what im talking about but im too lazy to honestly just compare graphics cards to each other. Is this a good gaming graphics card for games like left 4 dead 2, World of warcraft, League of Legends, Diablo 3, etc. ?

I purchased this product for my windows 7 64bit OS system. I use it for games like Command & Conquer, World of Warcraft, and other role-playing games. The graphics are exceptional, my CPU doesn't run hot, and I've had no problems with it. For the price, this is an excellent card plus the ASUS GPU Tweak allows you to change setting for maximum performance. I hope this helps.

would this support three monitors? I know it has the the connections but would it be able to handle three at the same time.

Does the job, and then some...

Four different output jacks (2-DVI, 1-HDMI, and 1-D-Sub, which can all be used at once to run up to 4 monitors. The card performs all HDCP functions perfectly. Videos, movies, and even photos, look richer, and have better color than with my old GTX430...

Looks like the GT640 is compatible with your MB since the MB has a single PCIE x16 slot. Be aware that the second PCIE slot will be covered by this double wide card.  Also the GT640 does not have a separate power connection so your power supply does not have to provide that. Note however that this card does draw extra power. You need to assure that the power supply provides enough power for the entire system.
I have been very happy with this card. I'm running it with Linux Mint 15 and the Nvidia drivers.

Does this card require any active adapters to run more than 2 monitors?

As long as both monitors have at least DVI-D port, you should be fine. If both monitors only have VGA ports, then you would have to use a DVI-to-VGA adapter for one monitor, while the other would connect directly to the available VGA port.

In the rare chance that both monitors only have HDMI connections, then you would have to use an HDMI-to-DVI adapter for one of those monitors.

Either way, there are plenty of configuration options available on this card since it has 2 DVI, 1 VGA, and 1 HDMI.

i bought this card and for some reason when i put it in my system it wont turn on i see the LEDs in my system flash and cut off this worked for about three hours then it stopped working.

side note: i hooked everything up except the card and the system turned on and stayed on.

My question is: is this the card malfunction or is it something else like PSU doesnt have enough watts to support? (PSU is 400w)

The power supply you have is a tad light duty (the one in the work computer i put this in has 600w).  However, this unit does not require its own powered 6pin.  If this is a home build pc I would check to see if all of the power inputs for the motherboard are satisfied (sneaky 8pin *shakes fist*).  Did you replace another standalone video card or are you upgrading from on-board?

Onboard: I would try CMOS clear usually a button on the Motherboard or a pin jumper (check your motherboard manual if you don't know).

Replacement:  If your Computer still will not get to POST with the video card in, it would either be the video card or your power supply at that point. Try it with the old video card again.  If it works with the Old Card but not the new one, then unfortunately you might have gotten a bad card.  I am confident ASUS would RMA it and replace your device if it did indeed arrive DOA.

not at 50+ fps with 2 gb ram ur looking at 20-30 in that rate, plus the cards a 128 bit everything now-a-day games will run at norm or average rate. asus makes a gforce 192 bit cards that can do what u want tho its a lil more money but worth it

I'm not really sure this card would work for me. I think its to overpowered. I have a prebuilt PC (Gateway). It has an i3 530 and 6GB of ram. Would i need a better PC for this card?

Really depends on what your using the pc for and what proformance you want. As long as your motherboard has a pci express 3.0 slot your comp can definatly use it. Do you use it for gaming? If your not going to be running graphic heavy programs perhaps something a bit less powerful would be best. Given the specs of your pc i would say this card is as much graphic power as your rig can handle. The card would also serve well if you decide to upgrade pc in the future. Hope this helps. i have a hp pavilion a6700y with windows vista home premium 64 bit, updated memory of 4 x 2GB ram, 500 watt power supply, a PCI express x16 and looking to run (The Sims 4) on my 1080p hdtv 42" sharp. Will this graphics card work or does anyone have better suggestion in about this price range?

Yes, from the specs of your rig the card will work fine. HDMI, DVI, or VGA to your TV/receiver depending on the available connections at the TV or receiver.  However, if you are buying this you might also want to pick up some more RAM and jump to 8GB in 2 more 2GB sticks if you have the slots, or new 2x4GB so you aren't paging and causing excessive disk I/O.

I haven't tried the HDMI out on this yet myself but have had some annoying issues with audio via HDMI in general.  As a rule of thumb, I'd recommend using the card's drivers first, before the nVidia drivers, and possibly update the audio drivers on your main board as well.

I have this hooked up to a 4k TV. only getting 30htz. How can I get it up to 60htz at 3840 by 2160?

the only thing i could think for you to do is run it at 720p, 1280by720 to get the 60htz .

i run it in 1080, 1920x1080 and only get 30htz but to get by the choppy words if that's the problem you are having was

i use windows 7
right click desktop and click personalize from the screen that pops up click display should be on the bottom left hand side and i changed that from smaller 100% to larger 150% hope this works for you
