Pros: Great Graphics Card for the Price, Overclockable GPU and CPU, Best Budget Gaming Laptop you will find, Good Build Quality. The system came with 1x 4gb stick of RAM, which made upgrading to 8gb easy. The clips on the RAM compartment can be a bit troublesome, but a bit of careful lifting will get it open. I'm currently running SW:TOR on high graphics preset with bloom disabled and it's quite playable... If I step the settings down to medium, it's absolutely flawless. I haven't overclocked the system myself, but I've read some forum posts on how the system can easily OC to 2.3ghz and higher. GPU is also OC'able via MSI afterburner and disabling ULPS.
Cons: System did not come with any restore disks or a functional restore partition. The screen is fairly meh (Blacks are noisy grays), but at this price point, can you complain? The DVD drive tray is held on with small plastic clips which come undone fairly easily. Also, the trackpad works fine, but the buttons themselves are quite loud when clicking. This isn't an issue if you primarily use the trackpad itself to tap or if you use a mouse, such as myself. The system can get quite hot when gaming, but that is to be expected... nothing a cooling pad or simply playing with it on a desk or table can't fix. Crossfire setup does cause a fair amount of stuttering in non DX11 games. I have it disabled currently. I haven't used, nor do I plan to use, the webcam, but I have heard nothing but bad things about the picture quality.
Overall Review: I was considering purchasing this or a full-blown gaming laptop, such as a CLEVO or FORCE, but eventually decided to go for this for the short-term and see how it worked out... So far, it is performing extremely well and I am very happy with the purchase.
Pros: Overall a value that you're not going to beat anywhere else by spending $400 on a laptop. I've experienced no screen imperfections since I've owned this (about three months) although it did ship with a newer bios, leading me to believe that problem is long gone. I'm using K10Stat to overclock the CPU between 1.7-2.3 while undervolting, and it reaches a max of about 72 degrees during hour long LoL games. I'ved played a little BF3, Mass Effect 3, LoL, and some other newer games that it all runs fine, some on decreased settings but native resolution.
Cons: The trackpad is horrible, and this machine comes with so much bloatware that it makes starting up the first time take about 10 minutes before the computer is usable. Most users (such as myself) should immediately wipe and reinstall windows, but MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD the trackpad drivers from Asus. It will help tremendously! The laptop does also get hot and slightly loud (I consider myself fairly noise-sensitive) so do not plan on overclocking above 2.4 if you plan to keep this for the long term. The keyboard is also a little springy, and feels cheap at certain times. You can even hear hollow-type noises because of how it is set up if you're typing too fast or pressing down on keys in rapid succession.
Overall Review: I'm running mine with crossfire disabled and only the discrete GPU running. I hadn't experienced any stuttering with it enabled, but it helps temps (and respectively noise) to have it disabled so that your APU isn't doing double the work. I haven't figured out how to overclock the GPU, I've tried Afterburner and disabling ULPV and changing registry entries, adding .dll's to the catalyst folder, but nothing allows me to change the core or memory clocks. Not a big deal as this APU and card will handle just about anything at this resolution anyways. Display: 7/10 (I've owned one IPS monitor) Audio: 4/10 (I run this with external speakers most of the time) Keyboard: 5/10 (full keyboard, although cramped layout) Temps: 6/10 (overall it could be much worse for the performance) Performance: 8/10 (as long as you're not in power saving mode) Overall: 7.5/10 I would (and have) recommended this laptop to budget minded colleagues, and it has served its purpose for me of light gaming.
Pros: - Bang for the buck - Will not be undersold for less - Best in its price category - Easy to overclock GPU/CPU - One free DDR3 slot (can be easily upgraded to 8GB DDR3-1333MHZ) - Very efficient and fast for a laptop of this category
Cons: - Cheap keyboard - Cheap trackpad - Screen is somewhat between medium-to-high definition (MD/HD?) - No bluetooth (but come on, at this price, do not look forward for bluetooth) - Bloatware, but easy to remove if you know how to do so - ASUS Live Utility is not very useful (it is better to do your own research and do your own updates/upgrades in driver and chipset) - Wireless is funky (signal sometimes not too high even when next to the router/network central)
Overall Review: For its price, and free shipping, you will not find another item that can compare. Did I mention that it is ALWAYS out-of-stock? Click auto-notify if you want this, you will not regret it.
Pros: 1. Able to overcloack CPU and GPU 2. Able to add another 4GB ram 3. CHEAP
Cons: None so far
Pros: -THE PRICE. You will not find anything like this for the price. Just keep in mind that this isn't the top top of the line computer you can get. But this computer is definitely worth about 700 to 800. -I kinda like the finish on the actual cover. Feels nice. -Easy to overclock, but I haven't found a need for it yet. -Runs pretty much anything you throw at it at about medium settings.
Cons: -Horrible touchpad(good thing I use a mouse.) - the keyboard is great except for the right shift key. They cut the size of it in half to make room for the up arrow. Guess ill have to learn to use the left one. -Definitely generates heat while under load. got up to 80C while playing SC2 (30 fps on medium btw) but I hooked up my coolermaster cooling pad and brought it right down to 65C. -Screen is definitely no bueno. Doesn't look nearly as ad while gaming or watch HD video but for everyday surfing the web. Not so good. -Definitely not a fan of the switchable graphics. I wish it would just be set high all the time. Even though that is an option, it doesn't appear to work. -TONS of bloatware. Just reinstall windows or whatever OS you use.
Overall Review: -Bought refurbished. Seemed almost new. The recovery partition was even there. However, I did have to wipe the HD completely to install the custom OS I wanted. That's a long and complicated story so ill spare you the details. -There was a "Stuck pixel" but it was a easy fix. Just google it if it happens to you.
Pros: laptop is nice for money, bought it for $400 a couple of months ago. No issues thus far. Tuned my voltages with FUSIONTWEAKER nicely.
Cons: screen quality
Overall Review: Can anyone please confirm what Bill L. said in the review bellow about the screen upgrade from ASUS G53 series laptop to get a 1920x1080 resolution. Is it compatible? I checked the screen for G53SX and the dimensions and pin socket is exactly the same, so I think it should be compatible, but it might won't it cause issues because of the resolution? Bill L. if you happen to read this please e-mail me at cocinci@gmail.com and anyone who might know the answer to this please e-mail. Thanks.
Pros: Where do I start? Highly overclockable, I've got mine running at 2.0/2.4GHz, graphics running at 650/1000. Fairly modest overclocks compared to what I could have done with it, but I wanted to err on the side of caution rather than go waist deep. The screen can even be upgraded with a screen from the G53 series of laptops, allowing you to get a 1920x1080 resolution and a MATTE FINISH!!! I did test to see what it could do out of the box without any modifications, and if that's what you plan on doing, know that you can run most major games with no tweaking, albeit at lower-than-maximum settings. World of Warcraft and SW:TOR both run great, EVE Online can take a performance hit if there are a lot of things on the grid, but what computer doesn't have that problem with EVE. Battlefield 3, while it does run, teeters on the edge of playable at stock settings, even with graphics near the floor I was getting 20-30 FPS maximum. Skyrim can get upwards of 50-60 FPS on fairly high settings.
Cons: Pre-loaded with tons of useless junk you don't need. If you know what you are doing have a Windows 7 USB Drive or Disc ready to reload it as soon as you get it. Not really a con on the laptop, because it wasn't meant for this but when overclocking it can run a bit on the hot side of the spectrum. This is easily remedied by using a third party notebook cooler, or doing some permanent case mods (couple holes here and there on the bottom and some mesh installed and its good to go!) Overall I cant fault the laptop for anything as it cost me $400 in early January and its one of the best laptops I've used.
Overall Review: If you can find one of these in the $400-450 price range, BUY IT. Its a steal considering how powerful of a mobile gaming rig it can be.
Pros: Very nice looking laptop, great price for a good video card with it's own 1gb memory, 4gb of RAM, and a quad core processor with a 15.6" screen all for 400$ is a very good price. 4/5 because the wireless network adapter had cables that weren't connected and had my wondering for the longest time why I couldn't get wifi. Definitely highly recommended if you're looking for a laptop for a budget gamer.
Cons: Wifi network adapter chip had 2 cables that weren't connected which made me thought I had a bad adapter so I ordered a new one. Only when I took the laptop apart I found the cables weren't attached, so I re-attached them and no more wifi problems.
