This would be perfect if it had the OS on a separate SSD.  Not worth the effort to install and move OS.  Is there another item with such a configuration on Newegg?

not with similar components at a comparable price.

i've bought 3 of these and did SSD installs with 2 of them.

if you google "Windows 8.1 ISO eightforums" you'll find a link to microsoft free windows 8.1 iso download. it even automatically makes a win 8.1 usb install drive for you if you prefer.

it really couldn't have been easier.

Question 3

The specs say 16 GB max RAM... is that correct or is it possible to add more? Similar models have come with one 16 GB stick and one additional slot, is that the case for this model?

This PC comes with 2 8GB RAM cards. And 16GB is the max. You can up it, but the motherboard won't recognize anything over 16GB. If you want more than 16GB of RAM (which is a lot) you should do a build.

Does it have a VGA connector?

It does, but is not enabled. the onboard Video has been disable and the addin board with 2 DVI and 2 HDMI port is the primary video driver with 3gig of video ram.

I need Windows 8 not 8.1. Is this an option through Newegg? 8.1 won't run Microsoft FSX Thanks

I don't know any details on how to make a change, but I remember reading a review where the person said they did that.  Send an email to newegg.

is a copy of the operating system included so I can add a Solid state drive and just re-install the OS?

No, there is no copy of the operating system included. Newegg will not let me give you the link on how to create 8.1 installation media in this message. Search on "create windows 8.1 installation media" and go to the Microsoft link on how to do this.  I do not know if it works - I have not tried it.  If it does create usable installation media, I do not know if the system that results will be the same as the initial installation on the disk - there may be, for example, driver updates missing for the graphics card or other hardware.

The product images of the back panel show a video card with multiple DVi outs but the specs list a single HDMI and VGA...  what's correct?

I'm sure the place might be able to do a re-install for you on your SSD... not sure, maybe call "Geek Squad" at Best Buy.....or something similar

Will I be able to install a wifi adapter with a PCI express connection easily on this desktop?

Depends on what you mean by "easily".  I did install a PCI express wifi adapter but had to remove the video card to get to the slot.  Video card has a metal bracket holding it in place.  Difficult to install card without removing card.  Also, there is a little sticker on the panel that basically says you void warranty if you open the machine.

Does this computer have Windows 8.1 Pro. Can it be added to a domain?

It does not have 8.1 pro, though I can be made to be in a domain, either directly, or by making the workgroup the same name as the domain name and create a computer account within domain for computer. You will not be able to login to the machine with domain users, but can create a local user of same name and password of one within domain.
