I have a Netgear R6250 router. Does this connect to that or does it connect to the internet modem? how does this get configured?

You can continue to use your netgear router and just use the lyra as an access point or remove the netgear and connect the lyra straight to the internet modem. The configuration is all done through the ASUS Lyra app.

My home base computer does not have a wireless internet receiver but is currently wired in to my portal router. Will the Lyra let me connect with a cable??

Yes, each of the devices has a "LAN port" that will allow you to connect another device or devices.
