I am often on the go and need to look at legal docs while drafting memos, etc. Can I hook this up to my laptop to make a dual screen?

It works perfect as a dual screen monitor for my laptop.  It also fits in my laptop bag for travel.  You have to position the screen right on the leather carry case or it will fall over, but since I figured it out I have had no problems.  Just don't rock it around.  It really should have a swing arm stand attached.  But I have two ASUS monitors for my desktop also, and I am well pleased with the product.  In fact I have built a few ASUS motherboard PCs and I am very satisfied with the product even above HP.  I would like to see ASUS include wifi in all of their motherboards.

Does this work on a PC and not a laptop?

I have not tried it with a desktop PC, but it should work if it has USB 3.0.  I have used it with two different lenovo T420/T430 laptops one with USB 3.0 and one with only USB 2.0, and it works on both.  I have also used it with my macbook pro which does not have USB 3.0, and it works great.  It's a great product, and I highly recommend it.  I now carry it with me every where I go, and use it nearly every day.  Hope this helps.

ASUS claims this is backward-compatible with USB 2.0, but it may have reduced brightness and picture quality.  If you have tried this monitor with USB 2.0, I would appreciate reading about your impressions. All good, or not...?

It's true.  I've been able to watch a 720p video on it while connected to a USB 3.0 port without a problem.  However when connected to a USB 2.0 port, the screen is somewhat dimmer and the throughput is significantly reduced; a standard definition video was very choppy.  If you're only viewing pictures, static webpages or the like, then connecting to a USB 2.0 port is fine.

Is this product compatible with Windows 8 RT?

I have it running on an ACER laptop touchscreen with WIN 8.1
and it works fine. I don't know about RT, the only thing being if RT has the option for second screen, then it should work.

Is this compatible with Windows 10 operating system?

It is compatible as long as there is a USB3 port available on the hardware you are connecting it to. It is more a hardware compatibility instead of an operating system compatibility issue.

Does it work with a tablet?

It may if it has a USB port to plug into the tablet.  The monitor has a big lag time the cursor moves very slowly on the second monitor on my Mac

Will this work as a primary display for a Mac Mini?

I have not tried it on Mac Mini but theoretically it should work on a Mac Mini because it is through the USB. But I can not confirm this. Actually I bought this to extend my display on a Acer Chromebook only to find out that this product does not support Chrome Operating System. And hence I have not used it much.

Is there provision for VESA mounting? Photo on Asus website of back of monitor looks like there isn't....

There is no mounting provision.  I purchased plastic coat like hooks that can be removed like posit notes. They come in many colors and clear too.  Works perfect for mounting on the wall.  Hope this helps

Will this work as a primary monitor on Windows 7 and XP, and on Windows Server 2003, 2008 and 2012?  And will it be PnP with those?  If I need to load some kind of driver then it won't be much use, as what I need it for is to connect to customer systems that don't currently have a monitor installed.

It was plug n play on windows 7. However, using it as the only monitor may not work out well administratively.
