It took me three units and two motherboards and several frustrating weeks and emails and phone calls to get it working. But yes, it now works. Go to Asus rog dote kom to find out what you will need. but don't be disappointed when you find many wrong leads and roadblocks. Its a complicated procedure, even for a 50 year old engineer.

Question 3

Can this device be used and mounted outside of the drive bays because my case only has 2?

In theory, it would work, but the back would be exposed and the two cables would have to run in the case still.  You would probably have to build a custom mount that would be sturdy and safe enough to use, you don't want it dislodging when you press the front buttons.

Question 4

I was just wondering how long the audio cable was? I notice that pretty much everyone is unhappy with its length. I have a Caselabs case which is a rather large case and I was wondering if anyone could give me the measurements of the cable. Thank you.

The audio cable that comes with the unit was pretty short, however, ASUS is providing a free cable that is longer at no cost. I'm not sure exactly how long the replacement cable is as I haven't had a chance to install it yet, but from what I've heard it is 4-6 inches longer. I believe the initial cable is 22 or 24 inches.

I just had to email ASUS support and within about a week I had my cable. I have a CM Storm Stryker, so I needed the longer cable as well for proper routing.

Will this be compatible with the new Z370 Motherboard Series from Asus?

Sorry for the late reply.  I am not sure.  My Motherboard had a ROG (Republic of Gamers) port that it plugged into.  If you can see it on your MB, it might work but contact ASUS to be sure.   I absolutely love this product.  Happy computing.

will it work with the 990fx board from asus?

It will only connect to boards with the ROG_EXT header- which I think only include Republic of Gamers branded boards (Maximus Hero, Gene, Formula, etc.)  So I don't think it will work with the 990fx.

Question 7

I've read many reviews where people claimed that the audio cable is too short. It is unclear whether the ROG_EXT cable will be too short for me as well. I have a HAF X case, and one reviewer claiming to have problems with cable length also has a HAF X. Can't blame Asus, because these cases are mammoth, but many of these reviews are 10 months out of date. Has the problem since been fixed?

I have one from launch in a Haf X.  The cable that came with it was too short.   At least then if you called Asus they could ship you out a replacement cable that was of adequate length   However I'm not sure if that's still available or if they've included the longer cable.  Sorry not to be if more help.

Is this compatible with any of the TUF series motherboards?

It depends on which TUF series board you have.  They didn't add the ROG port on motherboards until the Z87 series and Only ONE X79 series board.

For Z87, here are the compatible boards.

As for the newest chipset, most if not all of the Z97 and X99 ROG boards have the ROG front panel, but I would check to make sure chk the ASUS site.

I have the Newest Z97 Maximus VII Formula and it has it and also the X99 Maximus V Extreme which also has it.

This is NOT compatible with the Rampage IV Extreme. This is only compatible with the Rampage IV Black Edition.
