ASUS MS238H Glossy Black 23" Ring stand & Ergo-fit LED backlight LCD Monitor Slim Design 250 cd/m2 10,000,000 :1 (ASCR)

Pros: *I'm updating my previous review about problems with MS238H and a misconception about its inability to work properly with Win7 64-bit* We were apparently wrong in our initial assessment and came to find out that the monitor was in fact defective. Without rehashing what's already been posted in my previous review I'll just say that having this monitor fully functioning... very pleased! For the price and the inclusion of the LED backlight you can't go wrong. Besides the functionality of the monitor it just looks really nice and is very aesthetically pleasing. I have to take this time as well to thank Santiago of Asus tech support for all of his help. He went above and beyond what I would consider my typical tech support experience. He tried his best to troubleshoot the issue with us until finally narrowing it down to a specific defect in the monitor itself that couldn't be fixed. I RMAed and couldn't be happier with the monitor now that I have it fully functioning.

Cons: No one enjoys RMAing, was my first and I knew eventually it would happen just given the nature of manufacturing and shipping. My entire machine, as well as previous builds, are all bought from newegg so for this to be the 1 out of 30-35 times I've ordered I can't be too upset. In my previous review I spoke highly of the ring-stand but with this replacement the setup seems less sturdy and the monitor leans further back, not a deal breaker but I can see now why others complained. I guess each stand is a dice roll but not worth RMAing or deducting an egg. There was another guy (can't remember his name) from Asus tech support that I spoke with between phone calls with Santiago that read the notes on my call and told me I needed a new motherboard which had absolutely nothing to do with the issue... then he was rude for me pointing that out which is just a waste of both our time. Either way not worth deducting an egg but worth mentioning. It's a dust/fingerprint magnet.

Overall Review: Regardless of the positive and negative experiences of getting the monitor, the 5 eggs are for the quality of the product: No dead pixels, beautiful colors and response time, excellent for gaming and movies, all around top notch monitor. It's extremely thin and very light as well, for me it works but it may be a con for others. Only 1 HDMI port, not 2 although I knew that before purchasing the monitor, and HDMI to DVI cable and one VGA port with VGA cable but no HDMI to HDMI cable... they're not expensive it just seemed kind of silly. The Pros far, far outweigh the cons so if you're considering this monitor just go ahead and buy it. And rest assured there are no issues between the MS238H and Win7 64-bit.

Pros: I must admit that with some of the negative reviews on this monitor I looked for cons on this product right out of the box. How many did I find? None. This monitor exceeded my expectations! -LED screen made it bright and clear, and very lightweight and thin -The touch pads are not "touchy" at all like some reviewers say. A better word would be "responsive". Menu's stay up as long as you need them and do not have unexpected results. -The screen DOES have a slight 10 degree tilt backwards, but I found this to be a benefit. Look at your monitor right now...it's not perfectly vertical right? exactly. Anyone who sits lower then mid way past the monitor is going to have neck problems soon, just saying. -This monitor certainly is full 1080p, unlike a few posters say. You just gotta make sure you are using the native resolution (your video card needs to be able to support that). Hooked this up to my ps3 via HDMI and it auto adjusted to 1080p and it looks FANTASTIC.

Cons: Absolutely none.

Overall Review: -Some people complain the surface is a dust magnet. Sure, but it's also just as easy to clean. I quick wipe with a cloth and it's all good. Sorry for your cleaning deficiency haters =-/. -Dead pixels are really something you cannot control. That is just luck of the draw (albeit something that doesn't happen often). Mine was perfectly fine. If you get dead pixels just RMA it back, don't give a bad review!

Pros: I just upgraded from a 15" CRT to this bad boy, and all I can say is WOW!! It is sleek, sexy, and light. Im a graphic designer who uses photoshop alot, and I have so much more space to work on now, I cant wait to get started on some projects! I thought I had a dead pixel, but it was just dust! anyways, I dont seem to be getting any bleeding, and the monitor arrived,,,,well was seized in perfect condition. The blacks look black, and I actually compared it to a 4 color black, and a 100%k black. looks great, clean and clear, and for the price I have no compliants. ASUS wins my heart over again, lets just hope this thing last, this is my first day after all.

Cons: yeah, the other reviewers were right, there are pretty much no instructions. Thank Goodness I read all the reviews so I knew that the little black part that covered up the ring stand mount was detachable. My desk is mid level, and my chair is adjustable, so the monitor being flush with the desk isn't a problem. It is a little bright, so I toned down the brightness a little, and speaking of that, the touch sensitive buttons do take a little getting used to, but I've had it for five hours now and feel comfortable with them. (its not like you should have to use them alot anyways) I believe that this little sticker that says "splendid Try me" is actually some kinda logo, and wont come off. (plus im to scared to try to peel it off, it seems like its build on there pretty solid) considering im not demoing this monitor, its kinda weird to have anything say "try me" on it in plain day. All in all, I cant find any reason to take off any eggs.

Overall Review: I've built two computers with asus motherboards in them over 7 years, and never had a problem with either, so I decided to buy an ASUS brand moniter. As I said before, I am a graphic designer finishing his last semester of college, and with that being said, I dont have the money to pay for accurate color calibration hardware/software, so if you compare this to some insanely expensive monitor that can perfectly display true color, then you might have something to complain about. But for $200 you are certainly getting your bang for you buck ALSO UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS!!! you can get rid of the black bars by using the overscan slider Im overall satisfied with this product. Thank you newegg, thank you ASUS, and UPS......well I'll leave that discussion for another day.

Pros: ZERO dead/stuck pixels, great style and design, superb price as well! This is my first Asus monitor and I am impressed. I do not see ANY backlight bleed on black screens, or a full black desktop with no icons, ect. NONE, maybe I got lucky? Huge LED monitor at a decent price, can't beat that! I am glad I found this monitor, and would buy it again as it is VERY NICE!

Cons: The ring is a bit quirky to get used to though, as is the slight angle you may be forced to view the monitor at. Touch Buttons can be tricky, sometimes hard to the touch others very light to the touch. Hmm, 2 year warranty makes me worry, since all the other new LED Asus monitors are 3 year. Wonder why this model is only 2 year, makes one think they know something will go faulty with this model quicker than the smaller ones! This monitor is great, however the specifications are incorrect about the rear bezel, not sure why Asus changed this since making out the specifications. It is however not blue at all, the rear bezel is jet black with tiny metal flakes in it (Sparkles). I thought I should let everyone know that, in case anyone is expecting the model with the "Cool Star Blue Bezel" as stated in the specs. Overall Review: For the ATI users who have a black border @ 1920x1080 using HDMI: Manually Adjusting Image Size and Position using Underscan/Overscan for TVs 1. Based on the navigation system contained in the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center window, do one of the following: * Navigation menu—From the display palette on the Desktops & Displays page, click the desired TV, and then click Configure in the context menu that appears. * Navigation tree—From the tree in the Graphics Settings tab, expand TV Properties. 2. Click Adjustments. 3. Move the Underscan/Overscan slider to adjust the overall size of the image on the TV. Use this slider to adjust any visible black borders around the edge of the image. (Set to Zero)

Pros: Quality 1080 display at a nice price Viewing at wide angles is pretty decent, actually. Video looks so good I swear my eyes are gonna bleed, but then again this is my first HD display. Looks nice even when turned off! Headphone port great for hooking up some decent speakers. No dead/stuck pixels as far as I have noticed during regular use. Box shipped in had its own plastic handle. I'm not exactly an A/V expert, so if you want an idea on performance beyond the stated specs, I can't help you. However, I am very much happy with my purchase & everyone I've shown it to have been impressed.

Cons: The monitor can't sit at a 90 degree angle due to the ring stand. This is okay as long as your desk is a bit low, and the monitor sits just below eye level. Measure the dimensions, cut some cardboard to size, then set it on your desk while sitting comfortably (and/or straight) to test. Since my desk passed this test & I'm happy with the tilt angle, I'M NOT TAKING AN EGG OFF FOR THIS. If you are going to attach the clear plastic bit to the ring stand for added stability, try to get it right when you first clip it on as adjusting it is a nightmare. You want the plastic stabilizer to sit mostely flat on the desk regardless of the tilt angle, which can take time to get right but is worth it. fiddled with monitor & GPU settings (XFX HD5770) for best picture, but nothing beyond what anyone would call "calibration". Only two inputs: VGA and HDMI Only two cables: VGA cable & a cable with DVI on one end, HDMI on the other

Overall Review: As other reviewers have mentioned, you need to remove a piece of black plastic from the back of the monitor to mount the ring stand. It almost felt like I broke it off, but no, it's just really stubborn. If you get "No VGA Signal", press the first button to the left of the power button. This toggles between VGA and HDMI. The monitor is a dust and fingerprint magnet. This plus touch sensitive surface "buttons" (which take time getting used to) means you REALLY should buy some monitor wipes to go with this! My old low res video files look really bad in fullscreen now. Oh well...

Pros: Awesome picture, super thin, and extremely light.

Cons: I wish you could adjust the display angle a little more.

Overall Review: I love every ASUS product I have purchased up to this point. There quality for the price is amazing.

Pros: Great Black levels, looks great sitting on my desk. Lot's of room, 23'' and 1920 x 1080 make this a very good monitor.

Cons: Had some problems with HDMI and setting the resolution to 1920 x 1080 With ATI cards, it's an ATI problem not this monitor. The default for ATI software is to underscan HDMI by 15% this is easily solved with CCC. You just have to find scaling options and put it to 0%. Other reviewers must not have known this.

Overall Review: Overall it's a great monitor, videos, games, just about whatever you do with it looks great. Including writing this review.

Pros: For $200 you get a great LED 1080p.

Cons: I am disappointed in the ring type stand. That is why I knocked off one egg. Sure wish that Asus would make an adapter plate so you could mount to an after market stand.

Overall Review: I see that people in other reviews say they can not run 1080P screen resolution because you loose an inch of video. If you are using ATI video card you need to configure the overscan to 0%. Go to Catalyst>Desktop and Display, right click on the monitor picture at the bottom of the catalyst window, click on configure. Choose scaling options and move the slider to 0%. That should work so you can enjoy the full potential of your monitor.
