If I, hypothetically, threw this laptop down a flight of stairs, what would be the approximate damage? And then, again hypothetically, threw a bunch of text books down the stairs after it, what would happen?

There would be no damage to the textbooks because when you threw this laptop down the stairs it collapsed the stairs from its weight.
