We purchased this machine and first thing we had to do was find drivers so the speakers would work. Now we find the dvd player doesn't work. Now to deal with this. Wondering why they send machines out the door incomplete. If it has speakers... they should work when you turn the machine on. Same for dvd player. It won't recognize any media inserted. Upon searching this, find many, many others have had this problem. The question is why. Still haven't resolved this issue??

Deb, I would recommend calling ASUS about this. The techs that I have dealt with have all been very knowledgeable and supportive with any issues. If they were not so great, I would not have two laptops, a touchpad, routers, and ASUS mainboards inside my home. I would also not recommend their products to friends and family either! Give them a call and please be patient, this laptop is pretty awesome and hope that they can you with all of your issues!

What I did was install a ssd and a clean version of the os which u can actually dl from Microsoft and use the cd key to activate it. Needed Belarc advisor to get the cdkey. I hate bloatware!

I do not see this model in the Newegg's memory finder. What's the Newegg sku for additional memory?

I upgraded to 16GB upon receiving it. Also upgraded the HDD to an SSD. It has an extra slot.

And answering your question, no, you replace the original memory, not just simply add.

Is it possible to replace the LEDs in the keyboard and back, without voiding the warranty?

I would recommend contacting ASUS. Replacing the LED's would probably require a complete tear down of the laptop.

I want to downgrade to Windows 7 and am not really worried about being connected to ASUS support, however, I'd like to know if the drivers for Windows 7 are available for download on the website.?

I've only had Windows 8, even tho it's annoying, but I would assume the asus site would not have the drivers, but windows itself is good about getting drivers automatically, and I don't get mine from Asus anyways, I get them from the actual sites, intel, nvidia, etc.
