Can you use this without the water cooling option? Just by using just the fans?

Hey... You sure can use it with or without the water cooling feature. You only want to water cool it for over clocking the gpu in the card. It is possible to over clock it a bit but it will get hot.

when you get the game and enter the code on steam does it add it to your library or you steam inventory as a steam gift?

You have to register the coed you get on a Nividia web site. then they E-Mail you a code that you enter on Steam then it was added to my library, then I pre installed the game. At midnight EST a Steam notification popped up and I was playing at 12:01. I don't think Nividia wants you to be able to sell or trade the game.

I put together a system with an 850 Watt PSU, ASUS Maximus mobo with an i7 4770K on it, 16 GB ram, the ASUS Poseidon, 2 HDD's that spin at 7200, 2 SSDs, 5 fans, and 1 water pump.
So far I run flawlessly at factory settings, but you don't buy a system like this without plans to do some overclocking.  So far I have not done that due to work/family commitments, but based on what I see from the mobo diagnostic programs I should have plenty of power to seriously overlcock this system, and should be able to drop in a second GTX780 in SLI but that might be pushing it on 850watts.  Your 1000 watt system should be fine, unless you plan on dropping in more than 2 of the Poseidon cards.

Is it possible to buy just the card and not the game that come with it? I already bought one card so I don't need another copy of the same game.

The game comes free with the newest cards. The game comes as a seperate transaction that is discounted off the card's price. If you don't want the game then you can give it to a friend or resell it.

can anyone tell me how to water cool this thing? ive never custom water cooled anything and i have no idea how to set it up to water cool this at all. can someone tell me if there is just a kit i can buy to water cool just this card and this card only?

Well if you want to want to liquid cool this graphics card you would need to setup a custom liquid cooling loop for it. In order for you to do that you need to buy a custom luqiud cooling kit like the "XSPC Raystorm 750 EX240 Universal CPU Water Cooling Kit " which you can buy at frozencpu website.  The kit includes everything such as Radiator,Pump,CPU Water Block,2 meters of Clear Hose,2x Fans, 6 Fittings and Hose Clamps. What you would also need to buy is a liquid of your choice and you also need 2 more Alphacool G1/4 Thread 90° Rotary 1/2" ID Barbs - Chrome . With all this gear you could liquid cool the cpu and gpu if you include it in the same loop. If you want to luqid cool only the GPU then you would just use the same components except for the cpu waterblock. Right now I am running on air and it is still pretty cool. I set up the same card and liquid cooled it and it was 20 degrees celsius cooler than mine. BTW LIQUID COOLING KITS IN TOTAL COST AT LEAST $200 with the liquid.Hope this helps.

What is the width of the threads for the hose fittings?

Any G 1/4  Fitting will be ok. But for the width of the hose depends on the width of your fitting. make sure its the same. example if you get  3/8in.ID x 5/8in.OD  tubing you have to get the same size fitting for your loop to work and fit right so theres no leaks.

I'm looking for a liquid cooling system for this card.  Where would I find one that would work for my system?  I'm also looking at getting an ASUS motherboard with water/liquid cooling capabilities, and I would like to get a system that I could use for both this card and that motherboard.  Thanks!

I purchased a Kool acne all in one system. I actually asked this very same question when I bought the video card and that was the company I was directed towards. You can overclock to a serious level of heat and still use the system to keep the card relatively on low temps I don't think I've gone above 60 degrees Celsius, and that's max overclock on battlefield 4.probably the best video card I've ever ran so this would be my first time using liquid cooling. Best part about the card is the fact that there is really no inlet/outlet port unless you are hooking it up to your system in which case it doesn't really matter as long as you set it up right. There are two Systems one is 200 I believe in the other is 300 I would go for the 301 as it has been purchased more and has more reviews in the 201 it seems to be doing its job but I also run an air conditioner during the summer 24 /7 when the computer is on, so I would neverhave a problem either way. Liquid Cooling a motherboard I'm not as much help though I'm pretty sure if you want both of them in synchronization with a relatively cool room in your house you should be able to overclock and get the best performance I love ROG after my latest experience with son nothing but positive reviews. I would look for an ROG motherboard to go in sync with the graphics card, it'll be a cool light show in your reg.

Is the Poseidon faster than the Mars 760x2?

Yes, but if your motherboard can only fit 1 video card, the Mars 760x2 might be something to consider since it's not advisable to SLI 2 Mars 760x2. 1 stock Poseidon is slightly better than a Mars 760x2, and 2 Stock Poseidons are super fast. According to my tests  of Poseidon in SLI, my performance boosted 200%, which is great because you don't always get a whole 200% boost in SLI mode. 
If you're deciding bet this and the Mars 760x2, I would choose the Poseidon if your case has the space for it, especially if you are considering SLI in the future.

Can this GPU SLI with Asus GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5?

Yes, all GTX 780 cards are based on the same reference blueprint architecture; changes in cooling techniques, PCB design, voltage components, and i/o ports do not have an effect in terms of determining what cards can be configured to run in SLI.

If you are truly concerned, just verify a match in the specification of each card; look at the GPU, the Shader Units, the Cuda Cores, etc.

Is the cooler on this card good enough for a somewhat heavy overclocking?

The real benefit to this card is the potential for the water cooling setup and no voided warranty. If you don't plan on going the water cooling route now or in the future, I would second-guess the extra cost. With that said, the water cooling will allow you to overclock a good bit safely, even though I'm not so sure the ASUS GPU tweak provides anything truly hardcore. Some final words of wisdom - if you plan on water cooling, do not forget to grab some elbow barbs as straight barbs will create panel interference.
