Is there any way to hang this router from a wall?
It doesn't look like it from the photos.

No not really unless you drilled holes on the back side of the foot it sits on
 Then you would  have to hang up side down.  Don't think its really feasible.

What is the current hardware version? Listed as H/W Ver on the sticker.

Ironically I cannot answer that question because I just shipped it back to get repaired yesterday. For some reason the WAN port stopped working and I was not getting an Internet connection.  I'm now using an Apple Airport Extreem router.
Sorry I don't have an answer but maybe you might be able to gain some insight from my experience with the ASUS AC68U router and having to send it in to be fixed.

Question 3

If I purchase this can it just replace my modem? or do I still need a modem and attach this to it. And does running a wire from the modem to the router slow down the connections?

Router is seperate from modem, you will still need a modem. Your WAN speed (upload/download speeds)will depend mostly on your modem and your LAN speed (devices on your network)will depend on your router. You can allocate bandwidth and many other nifty things with this router.

Does this support gigabyte ethernet?

Yes it does. I'm currently using it for both a gigabit ethernet and wireless network. Excellent router.

I'm interested in the router but am finding some negative reviews. Does this router work, or will there be issues?

This router is used on an Ethernet network with two PC's and a printer. It provides a WIFI network for an iPad Air and iPhone 5s all without any issues. No problems with coverage in a 2500 sq ft. house even on the default 80 mw power setting on either band. Visiting friends enjoy the guest network feature. The only negative so far is that two reboots have been required in four months of ownership.

I have retained the original shipping firmware 374.158 and will not upgrade until I'm convinced newer versions are more stable.

Can i-phones, i-pads, and x-box use the wifi at the same time and not drop off ?

I haven't noticed any drop off's yet.  In our house we'll have multiple Phones and tablets along with Desktop and laptop computers.  At any given time there's about 5 to 10 devices connected.  This router takes anything we throw at it.  
If you even want something faster, Asus just released the successor to this router which is even faster.  Understand a good router like this is only as good as the cable modem it's connected to.  If you don't own your own cable modem (I recommend a Motorola Surfboard) then you're doing it a disservice to being able to get the full potential out of it

Sorry if this is a basic question.  I haven't bought a new router in years.  Does this router have a guest wifi option?

Amazing guest WiFi options.  I can set up 3 guest wifi said a on 5ghz and 2.4ghz.   On each they can have unlimited clients and you can set a connection limit.

Now I say unlimited but youre still restricted to  basic networking limits on the max amount of ips.  So I guess technically you can have some 253 guest connected on 6 differ guest WiFi with time limits.

Will this router allow me to access the internet via a USB 3.0 4G LTE dongle?

You can use a USB cellular dongle for the internet connection on this router.   I have successfully done so with an older USB dongle (not 4G, not LTE).

It doesn't matter if it is USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 since even USB 2.0 far exceeds the speed of 4G LTE many times over.

Here's the catch:  Which brand/model of USB dongle matters.  The list of "officially" supported dongles is kind of limited though it can get updated with a firmware release.  So if you already own a USB cellular dongle not on the actively supported list, support may have been added since the last time the documentation was updated or in the future.  Do not rely solely on the PDF at the Asus site because it was several months old when I last checked in November.

Some USB dongles only work when a piece of software is run on your PC (i.e. not stand alone devices) to start the internet connection, making them a hardware/software codependency.  This is why some dongles require software direct support within the router.

I highly recommend you search the forums to see if any other users have had success with the specific USB dongle you are considering.

One other note:  Having had both success and failure getting two USB dongles to work, be prepared for frustration, especially when you aren't sure if your dongle is directly supported.  Getting the cellular USB dongle configured with the carrier plus configuring and testing with this router is not a job for a novice user.  My recommendation is that you prove your cellular USB dongle is working when directly attached directly to your computer before you ever attempt to attach it to the router.

can a Linksys wireless adapter be use with asur rt-ac68u?

Yes, it can.  If the you may not be able to connect at fast AC speeds, depending on the Linksys wireless adapters available protocols, but since the RT-AC68U supports legacy protocols, it will work fine with your Linksys wireless adapter.
