Solid router for the right price12/3/2020 12:48:06 PM
Pros: -Great range
-Typical solid ASUS web interface
-Aesthetically pleasing
Cons: -Last firmware update was in May 2019, which suggests this unit is End of Life
-Uses non-Broadcomm chipset, which means no modified firmware available.
Overall Review: If you can get this for the right price, it's a decent solid router. Just know that ASUS very likely isn't supporting this router anymore with updates.
Easy setup and reliable connection12/26/2020 5:06:44 AM
Overall Review: Was easy to set up, edit connected to all of our referrals very quickly and easily. It isn't the fastest router in the world but it certainly seems to be easy to work with
Pros: Easy setup
Good coverage of my house
You can schedule a daily/weekly automatic reboot
Has a secure guest network
Looks cool
Cons: Power cord is kind of short
Overall Review: I bought this to extend my WiFi coverage to a part of the house that was poorly covered. The device recognized that it was connected to another router (not a modem) and basically was ready to go.
The only thing I had to do in setup was change the password and enable the Guest Networks and schedule an auto reboot once-a-week.
Of course Newegg got this awesome product to my house amazingly fast and they are just the best place to shop at!
Cons: Total novices should be given a bit more set up information
Overall Review: This is my second Asus router. The first, a 66U, which I had for five years, developed a broken on/off switch which is a common problem you can Google. Rather than trying to pop the case open on the old one to fix the switch, I decided to get rid of the toothpick I had stuck in the old on off switch and just get a new router. I have a modest bi-level home, 56 x 26, and a Wi-Fi analyzer shows I have a green signal on both levels throughout the house on both bands. Ethernet cable is used to my TV and DVD player for streaming. Ethernet is also used to my desktop computer and the security camera base station. Wi-Fi is used for two smart phones, two tablets, a laptop, Alexa, and guests. We stream Sirius music and occasional Internet radio. I only pay the cable company for 100 Mbps service so this router fulfills my needs. Actually, I was happy to stay with a Asus router because I was familiar with the interface which is virtually unchanged. Don’t expect more from your router than you’re paying for from your cable service. Learn which band works best on which device, and there’s little need for a smart router. Spending three times as much on a router won’t solve issues that aren’t the router’s problem. Spend more only If your circumstances require more. And, throughput disappointments may be because of construction issues, device capabilities, or channel competition with your neighbors. This has been installed for a little over a week and so far so good. Time will tell regarding reliability.
