Game Changer! 5/27/2020 1:54:01 PM

Pros: Speed, reliability, handles large data movement and many devices, easy setup, remote access from phone app.

Cons: Larger footprint, expensive.

Overall Review: After experiencing chokes and drops, decided it was time to replace my router. Given the demands on data and growing number of devices on the home network, looked for a robust solution. Settled on this one and it definitely did the trick. It's bigger....it was easy to install/setup, all devices saw it but, ironically, an Asus gaming laptop does not. Newest samsung phone picked up wireless 6 right away. Haven't spent time troubleshooting that yet because it's hardwired anyway. Wireless data was topping out at 50-70Mbs but was supposed to be seeing 250Mbs. Now, speed tests, especially on the higher frequency score routinely in the 230's. No service drops. On the pricey side, but now I've got a router that is up to the task now and into the foreseeable future.

Excellent Router 5/18/2020 3:05:39 PM

Pros: Easy and fast to set up, all done on my phone through their app. Can also be accessed via a website in any web browser connected to the router. Companion app makes tinkering with it that much easier.

A noticeable upgrade from my Asus N router I purchased about 5 years ago. I completely skipped WiFi AC, and this jump is amazing. The N router had trouble getting a good signal to some far rooms in my house. It also had some difficulty handling multiple video streams and remote desktop connections.

This WiFi AX/6 router handles everything I've thrown at it with ease. Paired with Gigabit internet, browsing, streaming, and gaming are all buttery smooth. Lots of connected devices are absolutely no problem. 4K video/60 FPS streams no problem at all. Range is also extended nicely, much better than my N router. Still a few spotty areas, but they're in the farthest corners, and the signal is going through lots of thick load bearing walls, so it's to be expected. It doesn't hamper the experience at all.

Plus, with Asus AiMesh, I could easily just extend the signal if I really needed it in those certain spots.

All my devices easily connected and have had no issues. People complained about internet problems with the router. The only reason since I've been using it that my internet has dropped out is because the internet service itself was experiencing an outage. The router has been fine.

All in all, it's a great device. Looks nice, easy to use, fast, wide coverage. Everything you could ask for in a router.

Cons: None. Does what it says it does, and looks good doing it.

Overall Review: Please do not listen to all the bad reviews on this product. People get defective items all the time. It happens. I know I've had my fair share, but I never reviewed the company or product poorly when it did. If they make up for it, no harm no foul.

This product seems to suffer from a very large influx of bad reviews, so I'd like my 5 egg score to maybe bring that average up a bit.

Disappointed... 5/12/2020 10:24:38 AM

Pros: -Boast a lot of possibilities...
-Fireware is solid, similar to older routers (comprehensible).
-Merlin Supported

Cons: -Inadequate speeds on both 2.4Ghz/5Ghz
-"Next-Gen" Tech not ready (Wifi 6)
-AiMesh needs a lot of work, very inconsistent.

Overall Review: I purchased two of these to create an AiMesh ecosystem within my home. My house isn't huge but I always have issues reaching my step-daughter's room on the second floor. Figured why not go all out even with "next-gen" tech to pretty much future proof the house for the next couple of years. These routers would have replaced my old Asus RT-AC87R (currently, still in use)... the AiMesh was not stable from the node upstairs and it seems that many of the devices preferred connecting to the main router (these were from stock setup settings.).

I did some tweaking but to no avail, similar issues continued to occur. Dropped or hanging connections the wifi would still be connected but no stable internet to be had. I removed the node and ran one router, everything seemed fine ran well but I never could achieve higher than 100Mbps over any of the bands on any of the devices upstairs and at times even right next to the router I would get a poor connection on certain devices. An example would be my step-daughter's iPhone Xs Max... she would get 50Mbps upload and 15Mbps download (I'm paying for Xfinity's Gigabit service 1Gbps up and 50Mbps down). She was sitting close to the router with those numbers and my Note 10+ would get 230Mbps up and 41Mbps down... now, here is the strange thing at her father's house she got waaaay optimal speeds 300+ up and 20 down... *shrug*... must be some sort of interference with her phone specifically?

Regardless, I ultimately returned both routers back to newegg... and I'm currently looking into something new. I might even stray away from Asus for the first time in a loooong time.

Great router, worth the price tag 5/9/2020 2:18:13 PM

Pros: - Fast
- Enormous coverage area
- Reliable
- Quick to set up
- Looks cool, if a bit extra

Overall Review: Simply put, this is a great router. I skipped a few generations of wireless connectivity to get to this model from my previous ancient one, and the difference in both speed and coverage area is astounding. I have a big enough house that there were corners that didn't get good signal on my old router, but now I can walk to the end of my block while still connected. My streaming is higher quality and more reliable. And, crucially, I've been able to rely on this router during lockdown to work remotely with no issues. It is not cheap, but the added speed and reliability is worth it.

WAN Aggregation is broken 5/4/2020 7:46:32 AM

Pros: - Decend WIFI-6 support for the price
- Fancy WebGUI
- Thanks for Merlin these router become better

Cons: - If you have 1Gb Internet and need to WAN Aggregation stay away!
- If you enable WAN Aggregation & LAN Aggregation it breaks Network device list won't list any wired devices
- Technical support is sub-par
- The WebGUI is slow
- No VLAN support
- No RSTP and limited STP functions

Overall Review: If you have 1Gb internet service and decide to enable WAN Aggregation you will be disappointed. The unit keep spamming "kernel: protocol 0800 is buggy, dev eth1" Tried contacting their and try to get a message to their engineering and still ever firmware release have not fixed it.

Do some Research, Know your Network, Be Happy 4/9/2020 8:34:10 AM

Pros: -Easy transfferal of your older Asus router settings
-Faster, Broader, and more stable connections
-8 LAN ports is AWESOME. I have Ethernet routed to every room in the house, so it's nice to have a few extra ports
-Loaded with features to cater to everyone.
-Future-proof. I know this is a bit of a buzzword in the industry, but I can't see myself replacing this any time soon.
-I nerded out slightly when I saw the 'Wifi 6' logo on my Galaxy Note 10+

Cons: -Web UI is a bit uninspired, but you may look at that once or twice a year
-Early Wifi 6 adopter fee

Overall Review: This is an amazing Router! Don't be discouraged by the polarized reviews. I'm glad I read up on the 'Value-added review' further down. Asus made a great router here. Because my old router was also an Asus (RT-N66R), I was able to import all my settings and I was up and running in minutes. None of my devices even noticed the changeover (other than getting faster and more stable speeds). I have gigabit internet and this is paired with an Arris SB8200 Modem. My whole house is an internet powerhouse now. Be sure to update the firmware (This is the first thing you should do anyways). After the quick setup, none of my devices experienced any issues connecting other than an older laptop of mine ( w/ an Intel 7260 Dual Band Wifi card), but a driver download directly from Intel sorted that right out. The point to be made here is to do some basic research before buying. Find out what speeds you're paying for from your ISP, Find out the advertised speeds of your current modem. Update and upgrade accordingly. If you're only paying for 100 Mbps download speeds from your ISP, this router won't magically increase your speeds over that, and is way overkill.
