Wanted to love these, but never got them performing 5/2/2020 3:27:36 PM

Pros: -Small form factor
-Good AIMesh units
-ASUS control panel very thorough with many options

Cons: -Couldn't reliably cover 1400 sqft in mesh mode. It absolutely should be able to do this, and maybe one of my units was a dud, but even in the same room I couldn't hold down anywhere near expected speeds.

Overall Review: I've got about 20 hours invested into fighting with these. I really thought I'd get them to work and all would be OK. But I've got 1400 sqft with these two units stashed about the midpoint on each side of the house, but in mesh mode I had a corner bathroom that was lucky to even connect. Most of the house was pulling through 20-40 Mbps at best; if in the same room, 100 Mbps was nominal, but typically more like 60 Mbps is what we were seeing. The iPhone 11 was the only device that would routinely beat 200 Mbps sitting in the same room, but I never figured out why it was the exception (it was connecting to the same 5 Ghz-1 (802.11ac, not AX capable) radio as everything else).

I finally shut off AIMesh (as well as the second remote 92u device) and did a stock reset to the base unit. I have two AX-capable wifi computers in the house (one laptop, one iPhone 11) and tried connecting them to the 5 Ghz-2 (the only AX band and is typically reserved for the backhaul when in AIMesh mode) but couldn't get over 500 Mbps standing right next to it with 160 Mhz active. A direct connection via Cat6 cable was always 1 Gbps, so I finally gave up and decided it was something with the radio.

The goal with this was to get a wifi mesh for our AC devices to routinely be in the 300-500 Mbps range throughout the house to use as much of my AT&T gigabit internet as possible with 2x2 MIMO on most of our devices, but that wasn't even close to reality. Not even able to cover the entire house was a major issue.

Their support phone number doesn't seem to be staffed during the COVID situation, and the support email address they put in the box comes back as undeliverable. When I tried to register my device on the ASUS website, I got an error saying it was an incorrect serial number, even after it used that serial number to query a database and pull up the AX92U unit information. Never did figure out how to get in contact with their support team for help.

Not sure what the issue is as these should have been more than enough, but I returned them. That said, if you've got Internet speeds of 250 Mbps or less, these should work out OK assuming they can cover the area.

Stable, strong WiFi, fast and compact 3/29/2020 9:07:45 AM

Pros: - Fast, stable
- Strong WiFi
- ASUS GUI / Interface
- Compact chassis

Cons: - None to note yet

Overall Review: Was running ASUS RT-AX88U as AI Mesh Router, 2 ASUS Blue caves as AI Mesh nodes. System was never fully stable and quirky. Lots of DHCP issues, network conflicts. Fully factory resets didn't help - AI Mesh became unstable with 2nd node added.

Now, using one RT-AX92U as AI Mesh router, one as AI Mesh node on a second floor. System rock solid stable and FAST - 40% faster. Signal coverage strong across a tough to cover 3000 sq ft 3 level home. Handling 50+ clients in a smart home without issue. Love the size and that case has wall mounting slots on backside. Using the (now) old RT-AX88U as a media bridge and it is performing well. This setup uses AX second 5 ghz band only for backhaul. Fine with that given the demands in my home.

Exactly what I was looking from this product 2/11/2020 6:28:36 PM

Pros: -easy setup
-great for large area deployment
-great built-in options

Cons: -not the best instructions for advanced options

Overall Review: I bought this route dual pack as an upgrade for my parents' network. Works great and is very future proof. The instructions aren't the best for the more advanced options but can't complain that once set up it has not given any issue. Beware that when using in mesh mode, it will use one of the bands as a dedicated link to the central node.

Wi-Fi has come a long way 1/29/2020 10:34:47 AM

Pros: Talking about plug and play. Just connected to my computer and it was a go.bI was directed to the router IP address and set up the main router. When finished, app asked if I wanted to set up a new node. Click yes, plugged in the other router and within seconds, literally, it was up and running. Main router on the second floor and the node on the first floor of the house. Works like a charm. Set up of login and password is the same for all nodes it changes from one to another seamlessly.

Cons: None, so far. (If a wanted to be picky I would say the cable included was cat 5e when there are 6e and 7e available)

Overall Review: Best hit you can make if you dont want to hassle with cumbersome setups.

Great Stuff, once you configure it right 11/19/2019 10:40:40 AM

Overall Review: Bought elsewhere. Like the others complaining about the 1 5-GHz band, I thought it was a bust at first.

The only thing reserved for the backhaul is 160MHz. On the AX 5-GHz band, that the 160MHz backhaul channel is on, make sure you enable 20, 40, and 80Mhz on that band. Conenct with all your 802.11ax devices. You should get 1.2Gbs with a 2x2 using 802.11ax.

Fast, easy to setup, and lots of connections. 10/10/2019 10:54:52 AM

Pros: Having both wireless and wired connections on both routers with the high speed dedicated AX wireless connection connecting the 2 routers gives you lots of options to setup a fast network.
I have 1 router wired to my fiber fed modem along with 2 computers and a network
fax - Printer. This is in the front of a 1 story house.
The other router is in the back of the house and is wired to 1 computer, a smart TV, and smart ultra Blu-ray player.
Wireless devices are 3 Google assistant devices ( Smart clock, Smart Display, and a mini )
Ring doorbell and 2 remote chimes, Nest t-stat, laptop, 2nd smart TV, tablet, and cellphones.
13 -17 devices.
Signal strength is now excellent on 5gh through out the house. Speed tests for wired and wireless are all about the same.
Netflix loads a whole lot faster with this network, it was power-line before.

Cons: The first firmware update on initial setup went smoothly and setup easy.
The 2nd firmware update recently did not go as smooth, 1 router updated fine, but other router kept showing failed install. I finally turned off the router that updated OK and updated the other router by it's self.
The routers are little warm, a little warmer than the modem is all.

Overall Review: I am very happy with my network now. I had 1 N router that was connected to the modem by power-line and that got the signal to the back of house and the TV was on power-line also.
The front of the house was wired to the modem and by the modem's WiFi
The modem's WiFi is now turn off and all is handled by this WiFi 6 system.
The network is much faster and stable. This has been an improvement that will last well into the future and handle any new devices.

Great product! 10/9/2019 11:03:15 AM

Pros: I really like the range of the devices, all the different configuration options that it provides, the security features and the seamless handover between the 2 different nodes. It supports either AX backhaul (super fast, I tested it vs physical gigabit ethernet and had similar performance) or wired backhaul, which would be handy to reserve the AX network to wifi 6 devices.

Cons: It looks like a spider. The AX specification is limited to the backhaul (however on the website it states that you could open it to AX devices as well).

Overall Review: I would definitely buy it again.
