Question 1

Are all accessories included? i.e., original power adapter, cables, antennas

Accepted Answer

You'll need to supply your own Cat 5e or Cat 6 cables to connect the router to your ISP and to your PC (and USB cables if you want to attach external HDDs), but everything else is included (i.e., power adapter, antennae, manual, software CD, etc.).  Other than coming in a white box, it's basically the same contents as in a new retail version.  You might want to update the firmware once you have it connected.  Mine was a year old or so when I got the router but it updated easily online.

Question 2

Is this the same router at RT-N66U but refurbished?  I would really like to know if this router is DD-WRT compatible.

U and R i think are for where they were intended to be sold: online or at big box retailers. They are functionally identical.
The recertified is refurbished.
Some versions are known to be easy to brick when installing DD-WRT.
I did not dare try and installed Merlin instead which gives very good features and is supposed to be reliable and with good bandwidth.
Very happy with it except on April 1st when the UI started to misbehave for a day.

Those that installed dd-wrt what build are you using?

There are many thing that in my opinion make it a better firmware:

1. You can raise the Mhz form the stock 42 to 400 (i personally had it on 120) to get better performance as far as range. But its not a good idea to go over 60 someone in a forum said but i like to live on the edge.

2. Use cell phone as modem in any case your modem is broken etc.

3. Use torrent webui with external usb drive. no need to install on pc and any one on network has access.

Yes, they are identical except for the "U" vs "R" on the label.  The only difference is the marketing channel they were sold through.

Not tech savoy......will this replace my modem router from comcast?

No, you always require a modem from your ISP Internet Service Provider. A router is a distribution device for Ethernet or Wireless connections. Many ISP modems have these connections and wireless too not requiring you to have a secondary router. I prefer the Asus router for it's advanced features and extended wireless range. I am banging my head against the wall trying to get my printer to work with this router. Then i see Brother printers are not even on the supported printer list. Has anyone been able to get a Brother printer to work with this router?

What kind of Brother printer? The lasers and inkjets are often quite different , with the older and business lasers by far being among the easiest to deal with (as they are often just straight PCL printers). And I assume you are talking about connecting it to the USB port on the router (which probably implies it is not a WiFi or network capable printer).

Will it work under 220V voltage?

The unit itself operates at 12VDC I believe, and the transformer it comes with is 110VAC-12VDC. If you can find a transformer that will plug into this unit, then yes. Under standard factory shipping, no.

is it compatable with windows 10?

I haven't done a thorough test for compatibility, however, I have upgraded one of my laptops to Windows 10 that regularly uses the Asus router and not experienced any problems.  I will say that I have kept it updated to the latest firmware, so I am not sure if there may be incompatibilities in a non-upgraded router.  I have checked that I can log into and navigate through the admin screen using the Edge browser.  I have a printer connected to the router, and use the printer driver that makes the printer available as a standard printer (the updated firmware stabilized this quite a bit).  Lastly, I do have a USB drive connected to the router and it works just fine, as well.  So, I have used a lot of the features and have not had problems... I'll also add that this has been my favorite router since I bought it back in 2013!

can I use a 8.1 with the n66r?

Yes

I have a desktop and laptop both using 8.1.  And another desktop using 7 ultimate.  The desktops are hard wired to the router.  Cell phones, nooks, and the laptop are all wireless encrypted.

The router runs cool, and has given no trouble over a couple of years.

If you plug in an external hard drive to the USB port could you access the files from anywhere online like you can do with cloud storage or do you have to be connected to the same network to access your files?

I believe you can set up a ftp server so you can access the drive via internet.
