Does this have an optical drive? It shows one in the pictures but doesn't say anything about it in the specs.

Yes it does. I purchased this for a friend as a gift. They love it. Plenty fast enough for school and business applications. Small enough to take it with you without being a burden. I would recommend this computer for students or business.

Question 2

Is the product Manufacturer Refurbished or is it Seller Refurbished and what is the quality of the laptop? Are there any cosmetic damages dents and how bad are they

............NOT 1TB Hard Drive!..............

The laptop was in excellent condition, passable as new.  However the power supply looked like it was drug behind the truck that delivered it!  It came with very dated version of windows 8 which took several hours to install updates just to get to the point I could install 8.1, then another couple hours to get current from 8.1.  My BIGGEST complaint was that this laptop was advertised with a 1TB hard drive.  What was delivered was 500GB and to top it off, they partitioned the primary to around 180GB.  This computer was for my mother, trying to explain partitions and where to save media was and still is an impossible task!  Newegg was great in trying to resolve this, they rushed me another laptop.. unfortunately it too was 500GB.  I wound up with a $75 credit.. not what I was looking for but it was the best solution available.  Lastly, I have not been able to figure out what the 24GB SSD is actually doing.  It must be used by windows as you cannot access it directly and the OS is installed on primary partition of the 500GB drive.

Since using the laptop, its been a great machine however its been having a problem where my touchscreen is being disabled.  The first solution was disabling a couple usb drivers that were causing conflict.. it doesnt like the "do nothing" when the lid is closed.

Question 3

Is the 8GB RAM upgradable ?

no all the slots are full, though the motherboard supports up to 16GB you will have to find two 8gb ddr3's to max it out (another $150) and thus rendering your current 4gb modules useless for this application.

Question 4

do you have a matte screen and what is the resolution?  How does it work in outside sunny conditions. Is the screen bright enough to counteract sun glare.

1366x766 resolution  don't know if it's "matte" No practical difference from most laptop screen's. Brightness is different from resolution, have not tried it outdoors.

What is the complete list of input/output ports?  Have HDMI, VGA, card reader, etc.?

Left- 2x USB, 1x HDMI, ethernet, VGA + power. card reader @ front left. right side has headphones, mic, 2X USB again and cdrom.

Operating System says Windows 8 - Is that Windows 8 64bit?

Yes it comes preloaded with Windows 8 64bit and can be upgraded to 8.1 64 bit. The processor supports virtualization and TurboBoost
