Can you recharge the battery when the T100 is in tablet mode or does it have to be connected to the dock? I did not see a power connection on any of the pictures.

Yes it can be recharged in tablet mode. The power jack is located on the side of the tablet.

Is this tablet upgradeable to Windows 10?  with out cost?

For Dan G; Over the weekend I have successfully upgraded my T100 to Windows 10.  I registered for the upgrade middle of last week (Wed 8/26) and notified Friday that my upgrade was available.  Started the process and after several reboots my T100 was upgraded to Win10.  No issues or incidents encountered.  One thing to be aware of is that after the upgrade I had to enable "Tablet Mode" under "Action Center", a left hand pane window one opens by siding their finger right-to-left off of the right side of screen.  There you will see a button for Tablet Mode that is not checked or enable upon Win10 initial installation.  Turn on this feature and your tablet will act like a tablet again.

Someone previously asked and I ask the same: What is maximum amount of memory it will handle?  It has 2GB - can more be added?  Nothing in the spec's.

This is more than you asked .. but it may also answer unasked questions.  It is my understanding that the 2GB RAM is soldered to the MB and not user up-gradeable. I am planning on adding a 256GB SD card to the "tablet" portion, although ASUS Tech Support has advised that they have tested it only up to a 64GB SD card. I am still searching for an appropriate micro USB (m) to USB (f) adapter to allow the connection of USB devices to the "tablet" portion. The up grade from W 8.1 to W 10 was reasonably painless.  However, after the upgrade a USB DVD connected to the keyboard/dock would not be recognized. The solution was to edit the registry as described in resolution #5 in MS KB article 314060.  So far I am enjoying the T100 as a step up from an ASUS EeePC 1000HE.

Is the battery replaceable when it no longer will take/hold a charge?
Is the 2gb RAM user up gradeable?

Doubt the batteries are user replace, but I'm sure ASUS will replace them for a fee.

RAM isn't upgradable.  Considering their cost, you'd be better off just buying a newer model with more RAM.

How do I separate the 500 HD dock from the tablet without affecting memory?

When I first used my T100 it had a little over 50 GB on the internal SSD and 500 GB on the hard drive.  The reason it only has 50 GB is because there is a hidden backup of the operating system.  Once you make a backup you are given the option of making it a full 64 GB SSD.  I left mine at 50 GB because that is more than enough for my programs and apps.  
I purchased a 128 GB micro SD card.  I use that for my photos, documents, music and movies.

I use the 500 GB drive for long term storage of my full photo, document, music and movie collections.  If I go out of town I have these items available when I need them.

In tablet mode you leave the 500 GB drive behind since it is installed in the keyboard.  With the 128 micro SD card this is not a problem.  I use this mode when I go to the DR's office or while I'm using public transportation.

If I put the tablet into Airplane mode and detach the keyboard I get 10 to 11 hours watching movies, enough for a full day of travel.  When I get to my location I recharge the tablet and connect the keyboard.  This way I can change the movies on the micro SD card from the long term storage of the hard drive.  If I have WiFi I can take it out of airplane mode and it is once again a full Windows 8.1 laptop.

When you detach the keyboard you do lose the USB 3.0 and 500 GB hard drive, but you now have this amazing Full Window 8.1 Tablet.  Office and all my Cad and advanced math programs work perfectly.

When I am drawing in CAD I use it with a separate keyboard, mouse and 27" 1080P monitor.

Along with my entire day/backpack, from the rack above my seat, in a first class (ha) bus, while I was sleeping.

Crap. But perhaps this is a recommendation - I plan to buy another one.

Is the micro usb port on the tablet only for charging the unit or can other devices (gps, printer, usb jump drive, etc) be used via that port with a proper usb to micro usb adapter cable?

You can use it for devices as long as they don't need power from that usb port.  It won't let you power items from that port. ie usb jump drive won't work but you can use it with a printer. I use a 128 GB micro sd for added memory when just using the tablet.

So if you want to use the micro port for a printer, you can. but you can't use it for a mouse dongle, a usb memory stick or a usb powered portable hard drive.  I purchased a 4 port dongle for the keyboard USB and use that for my mouse and external keyboard dongles. 
This is a really nice machine.  I can't overstate how powerful this machine is.  Its comes with a 32 bit windows 8.1 which is really nice.  It will run all my older programs such as CAD and LabVIEW which come with 16 bit installer programs.  The 32 bit OS leaves more room for data and programs as an added benefit.  It does 1080 P over the micro hdmi port to my desktop monitor.  Between this and my Desktop 2500K processor I can do everything.

If it was just a tablet it would be great.  But this is a lot more.  When I go on trips I use it as my main computer. With Bluetooth paired headphones I get 10 of 11 hours of movie watching between charges. This Atom processor in it is very powerful.  It will run older Celeron processors into the ground. And it uses almost no power.

The hardware specs seem so satisfy the windows 10 upgrade, but Newegg didn't say "Free Windows 10 upgrade when available" as it does on similar devices. Will this get the free upgrade?

I dont know but most likely not, cause this one compared to others had better hardware in it. with 64ssd and the 500 hd keyboard for the same price as the ones with 32ssd and no hard drive in keyboard but more software and the free upgrade. 
with the reviews the 32ssd onces windows was installed on it there was like no space to store anything on the tablet. the 500 keyboard was a bonus
