Question 1

Three questions:
1. A lot of people have complained about lines on their screen, is this present even with the 3D completely turned off?

2. Can You turn 3D off completely off (don't really need 3D, but reviews have said the 2D is excellent)?

3. What Type of IPS panel is this monitor (e.g. e-IPS, P-IPS, AH-IPS, etc.)?

1) I have NOT noticed any lines in my screen,  even when I play micro games like Starcraft 2, and high resolution games like Battlefield 4. Lines is a graphics card problem,  not a monitor problem. It's a setting called "AA" or "Anti-Aliasing" which is a process by the graphics card that smoothes out rigid lines.

2) Yes you can turn the 3D completely off with a one- touch button,  and the 2D looks very great. I dont even use the 3D. The colirs are AMAZING and the monitor makes games look so vivid and colorful.  If ur looking for good color contrast, get this monitor.  Its the best bang bang for the buck.  The contrast is 80 million:1.

3)I am not sure what kind of ips it is, I am currently not home to look and see.

Question 2

Will I be able to hook up my Xbox 360 and play 3D on this monitor right out of the box or do I need additional equipment?

If you are playing a game that supports stereoscopic 3D and you are using the HDMI connection then yes you will be able to play them. You would need speakers to plug into the monitor in order to hear your games though.

There aren't many games that support stereoscopic 3D on the Xbox 360 but I have never had a problem with the ones that do.

Question 3

does this have optional speaker imput(S) for outout with cutoff?
does this this come with a remote

No remote. Few computer monitors do. It does indeed come with a line input in the form of a 3.5mm jack next to the headphone output, which is handy if you want to use VGA or DVI input instead of the HDMI.

Question 4

instead of the generic Microsoft  driver, where can I get the Win 7 (64bit) driver?

I could not find a separate driver for this monitor. The only software for this monitor on the ASUS website is for multi-monitor setup. Slim Drivers is a great program but it does not "upgrade" the generic monitor driver in Windows.

Question 5

I'm replacing an Acer H236HL. Would this be a suitable substitute for gaming and general internet surfing? I do not even begin to care about the 3D aspect.

This is a great monitor for gaming, professional graphics use, or for watching 3D content, (especially since its an IPS monitor) -- IF you can find one now, as they are very hard to find available for sale now. I believe that ASUS has either stopped production of this monitor or is slowly down production of this as of January 2014. And that's too bad, because it is an exvellant monitor and one of the few IPS 3D monitors available.
