Can the CPU be upgraded to a Haswel (4th gen) chip? Can the Hard drive be replaced with a SSD?

I don't know about the Haswell upgrade, but I hae replaced the HDD with a Samsung 840 SSD. It takes a bit of work to open the case, but once you're in, SSD replacement is pretty easy. All you should need are electonic/jewellers screwdrivers.

Does this have the upgrade to Windows 8.1 or is Windows 8 the only available version?

I bought my copy of this laptop with Windows 8 before 8.1 was released.  It was a free dowload and install, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't really matter which is loaded on your machine when you pull it out of the box.

WHAT IS THE COLOR OF THIS LAPTOP?

About the same as a Dell laptop (shiny black) only a shade or two lighter, almost a dark grey, and more of a matte texture instead of shiny

why doesnt it have battery?

It does have a battery. It's very thin and you can't see it or remove it without unscrewing the back panel.
