What is the battery life?

Battery life is good for browsing, email, and watching YouTube.  Intense applications will reduce battery life to 3 hours or less.  For most people I would assume around 6 hours.  I've gotten more than 6 hours and I have drained the battery dry in just more than 2 hours.

is memory upgradeable to 16GB?

Yes it is...and I've already upgraded mine.  Only one dimm slot is populated so you only need a single 8Gb stick of DDR4 2400MHz

Yes it has Bluetooth.  Version is probably 3 but not sure

Does this model have the finger scanner?

No it does not have finger scanner.  It is a pretty basic computer.  Besides being the latest 8th Gen i7 with 8GB RAM, the SSD combined with 1TB hard drive make this an ideal work horse.  The graphic MX150 is ok but expected in a computer of this spec.  Security wise, you do need to get some 3rd party wares to encrypt the drive to secure your file.  VPN is also a must if you are using it outside your own LAN.

Yes it's DDR4 and i believe it's 2400MHz although 2133 would work as well

thunderbolt 3?

No thunderbolt 3 that I can tell.  It does advertise an USB 3.1 Type C but have not check out the throughput to see if it qualifies for thunderbolt 3 specs.

Does it boot from the SSD or the HDD?

It boots from the SSD and it boots within about 10 seconds to desktop.  The HDD is pretty slow btw...i plan to upgrade it to a SSD in the future

No ethernet port.  It's the price you pay for thin and light.  I already had a USB 3.1 to ethernet adapter and i still haven't had a reason to use it with this laptop yet.

when is the fan audible? Also, if during heavy usage, define what heavy usage is like- thanks

In my experience you can hear the fan under intense work loads like video editing, or over long periods of use specially if you are using multiple apps or have a bunch of tabs open in chrome.
