I see that this can be wall mounted. however i have seen monitors that for some reason the stand cannot be fully taken out of the monitor. can you confirm that the stand piece fully comes out and does not stay attached to the monitor?

Yes you can remove the base and the arm that the base attaches to, so it can be wall mounted. There are 4 screws that hold the mounting arm in place to attach the base. Unscrew them and it should let free so you can mount it to the wall.

Yes, the VN289Q supports VGA, HDMI, Display Port and DVI-D dual link. The unit comes with an array of cables for all of the types of interfaces it supports, including a HDMI to mini-HDMI cable. There is also a 3.5mm audio cable included.
