ASUS VX238H 23" 1920 x 1080 HDMI x 2, D-Sub Built-in Speakers LCD Monitor

Pros: The monitor is fine. It works. Looks great. No obvious pixel issues.

Cons: The $20 rebate offered with the monitor is bogus. I submitted all the paperwork required for the rebate and in a few months received a prepaid Mastercard from www.payall.com which was supposed to be worth the $20. When I tried to use it on a $20 purchase it was declined. I checked my account balance on line at www.payall.com and it reported a $20 unspent balance. So I called their help line, and after over a half hour on hold, finally spoke with someone who explained that they add a 20% surcharge to use the card. So the supposed $20 dollar rebate is only, actually valid for $16.66 worth of charges. I consider this to be false advertising. The value of the rebate is actually 16.7% less than promised.

Pros: I got this on sale for a $130 after rebate (which arrived within the specified time period) and for what I paid I'd feel guilty complaining about this monitor. It has several screen modes that are very distinct and off great colors for video playback and gaming. The black levels in it's theater mode are particularly impressive. Buttons are clearly labeled along the bezel and menus are easy to navigate. And two HDMI ports on a monitor for a $130 bucks is just awesome. I feel weird bringing this up, but the pedestal is just so well designed I have to mention it. Pedestals are easy to setup in general, but this takes an already easy task and makes it very, very easy. It takes one screw (already in the base) to fasten the base to the monitor, and it has a handle on it so you won't even need a screwdriver. Plus the design is much slicker than other monitors I looked at. As usual the only thing more impressive than Asus product is how little it cost for how much you get. There's no better brand from a value standpoint.

Cons: I hate to put anything here, but I have to talk about the speakers. I was amazed to find a monitor with speakers for this far under the $200 price mark so I expected pretty low quality, but they sound pretty good for as tiny as they are. But in order to hear anything I have the volume on the monitor turned all the way up, the volume in Windows at 100%, and VLC over 150%.

Pros: Great picture quality. Beautiful white color.

Cons: No DVI port on the monitor itself, although this is pretty much alleviated with the HDMI to DVI converter included with the monitor. Does not come with HDMI cable. Built in speakers are pretty low quality. (only reason I took one star away).

Overall Review: Other thoughts disclaimer: I am of average tech knowledge levels, comparable to maybe a notch above the average Joe on the street. I had a minor freak out when I unboxed and set up my monitor at first. There was a half inch to one inch black band of nothing between the actual edge of my screen and the edge of what was being displayed. I tried monitor adjustment in every fashion I could figure and finally had to call ASUS to have them explain what I was doing wrong. Long story short, it was my graphics card which needed to be scaled up to handle the much wider monitor at 1920x1080 (properties located under Catalyst Control Center: right click desktop and it should be first one in the list> display properties> slide that slider right on up to max). Just thought I would add that tid-bit of embarrassment to save anyone else from minor scares in the future.

Cons: *Strange menu system, it's tough to navigate *Short delay before switching to another connected source. (when turning my xbox on it switches to pc) *Power cord isn't very long *No cleaning instructions to be found in the box

Overall Review: I'd recommend this monitor to anyone. I have never really used the speakers. I have a headset for the pc/xbox games and use external speakers for the rest. I did a lot of research before purchasing this monitor typically reading a lot of reviews and I chose this one.

Cons: 1. Gaming OSD Crosshair isn't very customizable, only 2 types and 2 colors each. 2. Speakers aren't high quality, only 2 channel stereo audio.

Overall Review: The price wasn't bad at all considering it's 1ms GTG and gaming grade.. My monitor only has 1 stuck pixel (stuck, not dead) which I manage to fix by tapping on the monitor with my BIC lighter on the tips/ends. (Temporary fix) I won't even bother using the speakers on the monitor because I already know they aren't good for gaming, let alone music... I'm not very keen on color variations, but this monitor has pretty decent contrast to color for what I notice and use it for (gaming). I took 1 egg off due to the 1 stuck pixel AND poor audio quality on the speakers.. I figured those two problems put together are worth 1 egg off.. if I could have chosen half an egg instead of a whole egg I would have chosen the half instead. Overall I do recommend this monitor for gaming. 4.5/5

Pros: really thin and light great for gaming the white frame is a nice change from the usual black I always get.

Pros: 1. It comes with all the cables you may need. 2. It's light weight. 3. The price with a 1ms refresh rate is unbeatable. 4. A great addition to anyone's desk!

Cons: I couldn't find anything I didn't like about this product. It suites my needs perfectly and I think I will be buying a second one just so that I have two matching monitors!

Pros: Had one bad pixel on arrival, but Newegg was awesome in the RMA process! Monitor is great, speakers a alright (for monitor speakers they are great), and I really like it all around.

Cons: Potential con: Cables are plugged in outwards, not downward, so if you're crunched for space keep that in mind.

Overall Review: If using the DVI to HDMI connection make sure to use a 3.5mm audio cable as well to get audio.
