Question 1

I have an ASUS RT-N56U and need a booster. How is this one installed and how far from the router?

The router has three single antenna's a little bigger than pen size that screw in.  You can just unscrew the middle one and screw in the new one. It's very easy. It makes the range much better.  In the near future I'm going to get two more to replace the other small ones and have super wifi :)

What's the radiation pattern on that thing?  Is there a picture somewhere I can see?

I haven't been able to find a radiation pattern, but as I said elsewhere, HPBW means "half-power beam width", and in this case it's 70 degrees horizontal & vertical at (I assume) 2.4 GHz, and 50 degrees horizontal & 60 degrees vertical at (I assume) 5 GHz. So you'll get the most gain (i.e. TX/RX power) inside of this are, measured from the center of the antenna. Of course, this is in free space, and walls and suchlike are going to mess with that. But your best coverage is still probably going to be inside that area.

What's HPBW, and what exactly is that area of the specs saying about the antenna?

Is the product universally compatible or just compatible with Asus products?
