Is there any way to run this board without a gpu? Im doing work that isnt graphics intensive at all, and I need the pcie slots for other cards.

But...you do have to have one GPU to drive a display, as there's no monitor connector on the motherboard.

How do I connect a monitor to this board?

You need a graphics card I think, at least there's no built-in monitor slot or anything, and I don't know if there's integrated graphics.  This thing can handle a bunch of PCI components, so if you're getting this expensive-ass board and NOT getting a nice graphics card to go with it...you might as well quit your life and move to the jungle.

If i use a Xeon processor on this board, do I have to use ECC memory, or will your run-of-the-mill bargain ram work with it?

I would suggest using the RAM that is listed on the approved list.  One can look at that list on ASUS site.  I stay clear of any 'run-of-the-mill bargain' anything especially when building a higher end system.

Does this motherboard require a special power supply or cables ?

No. But if you plan to populate most of the PCI-e slots, ram slots, and storage connectors, coupled with a higher end Intel chip, I would recommend a high-end, high-wattage (850+), PSU.

can i boot from the m1 slot?

I have the x99-E-WS/3.1 and, assuming M1 is a typo for M.2, yes, you can boot from NvME and it is fast.

My client gave me a couple of HP memory sticks to use in it.  They are DDR4-2400 ECC memory.  Will this work on the motherboard?

I would check the memory compatibility chart available from ASUS.  You can always try them and see if the system loads.

Don't know. Why don't you try something like PC Parts picker if you can't find anyone who has tried experimenting with running your exact configuration. I imagine you are not looking to buy RAM otherwise you could try crucial they allow returns if it does not work!

Wow are these prices up! Watch out for TALL ram if you are running a big air cooler. I have TALL ram but am running liquid cooling.
