Will this work okay in a PCIe 16x slot?

Accepted Answer

Yes.

Generally speaking if a PCIe card physically fits in the slot it will work.  This even applies the other direction (i.e. x4 card in x1 slot) when motherboards have open back slots although obviously maximum throughput will be limited.

There is one caveat to keep in mind.  If you're running a mainstream platform (i.e. AM4 or LGA1151) due to the limited lane count, the second x16 slot is often shared with the main slot through what is known as bifurcation.  If this is the case then inserting a card into that slot will force the GPU into x8.  Refer to the specs/manual for your motherboard to determine which slots share lanes.

I see driver support for Win 7 - 10, but was curious if the matching Server OS (2008 R2 - 2016) would install and function as well?  From experience, the drivers would probably work, but I've seen instances of installers having very rigid version checks, which then requires some hackery to get things to work...
