Question 1

I have upgraded my Dell 8200 from XP to Win7-32 bit.  My Turtle Beach OEM sound card is not supported and I am looking for a replacement.  The only concern I have is that the card must be supported in Win7 OS.  The descriptions in the Newegg don't cover that particular point.  Specifically, is this ASUS Xonar DG 5.1 card supported in WIN 7?

The card is compatible with MS Windows 7 32 bit.

Your computer (with Win 7 32 bit ) "should" install
the drivers on boot-up, or of course you can install
the ASUS drivers.

Yes.  I had this card was running under Windows 7 Pro box.  The card worked OK, and was cheap enough, but I was so used to a Soundblaster that I eventually swapped it out.

Yes! I have it running with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit at the moment! Works great. It's hooked up to a 5.1 surround sound system.

I can't guarantee that it will work on 8.1 but it works great on the 64 bit version of Win 7.

Win 8 lasted about 5 minutes on my system, then somehow found it's way into the trash.

will this card work in a 32 bit Win 7 pro machine with traditional PCI slot?  the connector looks like a 64 bit pci.

I have purchased three of these exact same Asus sound cards and installed them into three different mobos (or computers) that all have conventional PCI 32 bit slots, and they all work great.  I do install the drivers in Save Mode as well as the video card drivers to reduce the possibility of driver conflicts though.  You also have to know whether your computer case supports AC'97 or HDA sound if you use your front port plug and the audio card header in order to get the front Audio/Mic ports to work properly.  I think there is a question that comes up during audio driver installation concerning this if I remember correctly.  Other than that, you're good to go.

Does this work with Windows 10?

Yes!  I converted to Windows a month ago and have not noticed any difference.  I do not use it for graphic intensive gaming, just regular videos on the internet.  ASUS has offered several downloads for gaming that I have not tried.

DO i need to purchase this if i am getting a new motherboard?

It depends. Many motherboards come with built-in sound. So, it may not be necessary.

My motherboard came with built-in sound. I bought this because I needed to use a microphone and there was a substantial amount of hiss. Adding this card and plugging the microphone into the mic port on it resolved my hissing problem.

Also, I find the sound quality of this card to be significantly better than the sound quality of the built-in sound on my motherboard. It is also much more configurable (can add effects because of this card's software.)

So, the answer is no -- if you motherboard already has built-in sound. Or, the answer is yes -- your motherboard does not have built-in sound or if the built-in sound quality is not good enough for your taste.
