What power connector does this need?

The board gets power from the PCIE bus.  In other words, when you plug the board into the slot on your motherboard, the motherboard supplies the power through the PCIE slot.

The board itself uses very little power.

I see some reviews about the card not detecting when you unplug headphones. Was this issue corrected by a driver update?

Hi,

I have the card, but for me anyway this problem does occur.
I do have the latest drivers installed!
This card also has problems with getting along with win 7 home edition 64bit.

This hasn't been a good choice of a audio card for me. But their whole line seems to have their problems.

The other brand, starts with a C are they themselves having problems that's why I went with this card.

But looking back now I should have gone with the other brand starts with a T similar to a slow shelled animal.

You are not suppose to mention other brand names in reviews.

So If you are think of buying this card I would rethink it!

Will This card pipe 7.1 thru my video cards HDMI to my 7.1 receiver?

No it will not. Audio from your graphics card through HDMI is form the video card's driver, not from this card.

How are the drivers?

Depends on what version of Windows you're using. I found I had issues with the drivers since I'm running Windows 8.1. However, surfing the internet I found the drivers made by a modding community that I've been using the last few months and they've worked perfectly since I bought this back in Feb of this year. I'm unable to link you the information so just go to Google and search for Win8 drivers for Asus Xonar DSX 7.1. You'll see forums and such regarding this. If you have a full surround sound *as I do* You'll have to do some tweaking in the program via settings and such but this is something you would have to do regardless. Cheers!

Is this card good for music production?

It depends at what level you are working.

For a home studio Digital Audio Workstation it would be OK.

For pro work you'd likely want an outboard D/A with greater capabilities / more channels of input and output, and balanced audio connections on XLR or 1/4" TRS jacks.

I ordered a pair of Razer Tiamat 7.1 headphones and I'm trying to find a good sound card to use with it. Only problem I'm running into is it looks like my motherboard doesnt have a side channel plug (grey) so I'm trying to find a card that would have that. I don't know a whole lot about sound...what is the red port on this, and what is the silver/grey port on the right? Is that the side channel?

I use the Razer Tiamat 7.1 analog headset with this card. The results are fantastic. The red port is the orange/peach colored plug on the Razer headset. All ports + a usb are used for the headset.

Will this fit in the PCIE x4 slot?

Yes it will... in fact a PCIE x1 card will fit in a PCIE x4, x8 or x16 slot, just not the other way around... for instance a PCIE x4 card won't fit in a PCIE x1 because it is too long for the x1 slot.

is this sound card compatible with an asus q87t lga1150 motherboard?

I have used this sound card on an asus sabertooth and an asus Maximus hero vi
It should work just fine, be sure to disable  the onboard sound card.

Usually any incompatibilities are chipset based,  myself I've experienced absolutely no problems with 1150 chipset board Gigabyte G1. Sniper Z97.
