I am looking to hook up a GTX 970 to the PCIe x16 port and a Samsung sm951 to the M.2 port. I will need another PCIe port for a wireless adapter. Will I be able to connect these components and get the full potential (i.e M.2 at 10Gbps) out of each of the ports?

As far as my understanding goes from briefly reading the user manual and installing a 980ti and a NVMe PCI SSD, and wanted a M.2 SSD installed but deciding not to, the short answer is: yes, probably as long as that wireless card can fit into a PCI-e x1 slot.

The top two PCI-e x16 slots are linked, meaning x16 if you use one, or x8/x8 if you use both.

The third PCI-e x16 slot is linked to the SATA6G ports 5 and 6. It runs at a default x2 mode unless you specifically disable the SATA ports 5 and 6 to get x4 mode in the UEFI.

There are also (4) PCI-e x1 slots.

I ended up installing the 980ti in the top PCI-e slot running at x16
The NVMe drive was inserted into the third PCI-e slot and set to x4 mode, but lost the use of SATA ports 5&6.

I didn't end up installing an M.2 card, but I think there is some linking done with some of the PCI lanes, but I'm not sure which ones it shares, if any.

Question 2

did Asus fix the m.2 issues with this board as in not being able to boot your OS from your m.2 SSD because the BIOS keeps changing it back to Sata express?

I installed the Samsung 500GB 950 pro m.2 and downloaded/installed the Samsung driver. I;'m not aware of the issue you speak of, but it takes my computer about 10-15 seconds to boot up...kris

does it support x99 chipsets from intel?? i7 5820k?

No, this motherboard is for LGA 1151 CPUs only, LGA 2011 CPUs like the i7 5820k won't fit. X99 is a chipset for LGA 2011, and Z170 is a chipset for the new skylake processors (i5 6600k, i7 6700k, etc.) which are LGA 1151.

Will the Asus Strix 980Ti physically fit on this board, or is the graphics card too large (12in long)?

The board will not be limiting, but your case might be.
Except if you install a Hyperkit' then there might be interference in thr bottom PCIe slot.

I need a list of recommended memory that is compatible with this MB ?

Not suppose to post links, but if you go to the ASUS website product page and go to Support-> Memory/Device Support you can get a list of all the officially supported RAM.

Does this board require a video card. specs talk about onboard graphics and outputs....??

The motherboard has onboard video, but its actually the processor that has the video built on, the motherboard just has the outputs to use it. You'll be fine with the onboard video as long as you're not gaming.

I just bought this board along with 7700k (Kaby Lake). I am having POST issues. ERROR 62. Anyone running into trouble with this board + Kaby Lake?

you probably need to update your BIOS using a Skylake CPU first.  That's happened with other brands as well

I want to use this board with G.SKILL TridentZ Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4 3200 F4-3200C15Q-64GTZ. On ASUS QVL, the list is missleading since it states that 4 DIMM is not supported; however, it looks like a mistake in the document. Anyone has tried such a configuration?

I have 2 sticks of Trident Z in mine.  I could not run them at the XMP profile speeds.  They are still very fast with slightly looser timings, but you may want to consider a different brand to avoid any trouble.  Mushkin or Kingston are both typically very solid.

Does  this boards have the rgb headers and if so what volt are they?

2. and lastly it says windows 10 does not support wifi hotspot. Does that include the use of wifi only? i mean i can't use the wifi only?

2. If you're asking whether you can use the built in 802.11 ac wifi card on the board in windows 10 the answer is yes. it is exceptionally powerful too. the package includes a wifi antenna, but i'm getting max bandwidth without it
