Will this mobo fit a mid size tower case 11" 12"?

If that is the height no I doubt it. If your case is that high (short) it seems like you need micro ATX. Micro ATX has worked great for me in the past but it will be smaller, more cramped and difficult to build, I think you will have space problems. I put this mobo in a full tower case. It wasn't bad at all  and I think in a mid-tower would work fine depending on designer. You said your case was 11-12 inches tall. I say no way unless the case is very wide. The power supply alone will take up 4-5 inches. Top or bottom won't matter. Are you running a cube. If so then maybe, I never tried one before so I'm not familiar with their internal layout (a cube).

Does this motherboard have built in wifi or would i need to get a wifi card installed too?

It does not habe built in wifi. I'd recommend a hard line. But if wifi is a must, generally any card or adapter would be better than built in.

Question 3

If i get 16 g (2 x 8 ) dual channel ram for this board and later decide to upgrade to 32 g ram do i need to buy a whole new set (4x8 dual channel) or can i just buy identical ram that i already installed to add to it ? i would like 32 g ram but would like to split cost and upgrade later if possible.

If your mainly a gamer. 8 to 12 gig of ram is good enough. Though ram is more affordable now and 16 would be a better choice if your going to do some basic photo and video editing a long with your gaming. If you want to do more intensive video editing, then I would recommend you getting a work station board (x99) and shooting for 32 to 64 gigs of ram. Though you can still game with a WS board under the x99 platform. Don't let the x99 discourage you.

Does this work with windows 7 Home Premium?

Yes, it will work.  I haven't had any issues with the board running windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 home or professional. Asus and Microsoft done't provide drivers for windows server any addition. Thus, if you go down that route you will need to use a PCIe network card.

Does this motherboard support the i7 4790k????

Indeed it does, my pc performs better than 93% of the gaming pc's on the Furmark and 3D mark online comparison data bases.

Does this board work with the 4790k and the GTX 970? Also is G.Skill DDR3 1866 Ares Series RAM compatible?

I currently have this mobo on 32g of ddr3 @ 2400mhz (gskill triden x) with a gtx 970 ftw and an overclocked 4790k (4.5ghz) running with a 700w psu. Plus a corsair h100i closed loop liquid cooler.

Its a dream build to be honest. The bios for this mobo is amazing. One touch over clock and complete fan control even when using the nzxt 5 channel fan controller.

However im not sure if your gskill ares ram is compatible but i dont see why it wouldnt be seeing as how its a lower megahertz.

why is SSD a nightmare with this moba? It won't detect my ssd

Everything works perfect on my motherboard include M.2 port which i use as boot partition. I tried to install Windows 7 , Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. All system works, but there are some issue with RAID under windows 10 (system freezes for a  few seconds ) so just decided to stay with Win 8.1 until official drivers will be released. 
You just need  set up everything in BIOS and do it correctly. Unfortunately it's not for beginners and you should have some knowledges and understanding what you are doing. 
Sometimes it helps to do some changes and restart computer  to accept some setting to continue doing BIOS configuration.

I'm running a VGA EVGA|04G-P4-2974-KR GTX 970 R as a single video card and it works well.  This is a great board and has the most impressive BIOS interface I have ever seen.

G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model F3-2400C10D-16GTX

Is this compatible? I know its 240 Pin DDR3, but I couldnt find specifically if it would work on my board. I tried to find it on an online motherboard manual but turned up no results...

I'm currently using the z97 pro gamer and trident x 16g 2400mhz and they are working just fine. Both sticks posted at 1300 and easily clocked to 2400 with a simple boot of the bios and using xmp profile 1

so iam in the market for a new mobo. and iam having some problems choosing because of all the bad reviews on them how does this board rate compared to the others in its price range?I really only use gigabyte but bought a msi and its crap but gigabyte dont look much better HELP PLZ

Tammy; though reviews are great to read and may help you with your decision, but take all reviews with a grain of salt. We don't live in a perfect world and lemon (bad motherboards) do pop up from time to time with all manufacturers. I've experienced many bad motherboards from Asus, but that doesn't make Asus a bad company. It happens. Asus support has always been there for me and I still use and recommend their motherboards. It's just that I get unlucky with their motherboards sometimes. I'm sure others have had good and bad experiences with their motherboards as well. But I do feel that Asus does stand behind there products. Just recently, I purchased their Z97-A/USB3.1 board. It worked perfectly except there was a hardware failure pertaining to the on-board sound. It's RMA'd right now and when it comes back, I'm going to return it for the Z97 Pro Gamer. That's why I'm reading some of the reviews of this board. To see if this is a better board for my needs. So far, I think it is. However, I'd rather get the Hero VII, but it's been out of stock since Christmas and this board should be good for me.
