Question 1

I am looking for a lightweight ultrabook...light weight ....like in between 3 and 4 lbs....with Windows 8.1, 14 inch screen, HDMI,...no need for number pad.  Any suggestions?

I've had the ASUS Zenbook UX301LA-DH51T Intel Core i5 4200U (1.60GHz) 2 x 128GB SSD SSD 13.3" Touchscreen Ultrabook Windows 8 64-bit since November. It fits the requirements you stated. It was expensive but worth the money. Superb display, excellent build quality (no flexing, stiff hinge, comfortable-for me- keyboard) etc. Since I've bought it there have been other products announced (nearly all less expensive) that have similar specs.

Question 2

is it possible to replace one of the SSD's for a bigger one? I understand that it come with 2 128GB SSD's.  Can I replace one or the two of them for for example a samsung 256Gb SSD?

I believe the answer is yes. I have actually removed both of these one a UX301 unit and replaced with 1 single Samsung SSD. The Raid configuration and stock SSD's seem to have problems in this model. In order to do this some Bios configuration may be required so it's not looking for 2 drives in Raid. You could also install 2 new Samsung SSD's and simply use them as separate drives for more space! This wouldn't be in Raid but if one fails the other will be fine unlike the stock setup.

Question 3

Does this model have a hole on the bottom where I can insert a  pin or paperclip to reset/power-down the computer, if necessary?  On the previous Zenbook Prime model released last year, some machines had this "reset hole" and some did not.  Mine did not, and developed an unfortunate problem where the power button became nonresponsive and, because there was no removable battery, I had no way to force the computer to power off (apart from letting the battery run down).  This can be pretty unfortunate in the event that the computer freezes or won't come out of hibernation.

There is no such hole in the UX301LA. I can think of several workarounds to this problem if it should happen on this model. Windows 8.1 allows configurations that don't use the power key at all. For example closing the cover can either put the computer to sleep or hibernate, also there is an on-screen access to the power button (although if the physical button doesn't respond I don't know how you'd get the machine to power on.
