Is this phone compatible with u-verse?

This phone works on POTS [Plain Old Telephone Service].  Since U-Verse splits the data/TV feed out separate from the Voice, and send the voice thru a standard pair of copper wires, I believe it will work just fine with U-verse.  This is NOT a guarantee.

I would like to add 3 stations - how would the 3 stations be connected with the primary base station?

we just wire our stations in a wiring closet to a block, they then cross connect to 2 lines on local phone block, make sure all stations use same line one in settings, make sure all in same line group under settings, we use group 4,  and DSL is not on line one.

I have AT&T 945, is this phone compatible?

Not sure.  The key is whether you old system is analog or digital.  It is likely analog, and these phone are also analog.  However, these phones have 2 telephone lines that come from each phone.  Each line covers 2 telephone numbers.  You will need 2 RJ11 female jacks each providing access to 2 telephone numbers apiece.

what type of pbx / voicemail would i need for this system - or does it matter?

This phone, AT&T 1040 can be used with two other AT&T phones, 1070, and 1080.   The 1080 comes with a build in answering machine.

The phone can handle up to 4 CO lines, which need to be ran to each phone.   When each phone has all of the same lines connected to them, in the same order, you are able to answer a call on one phone, and transfer that call to another phone.

You are able to intercom each phone, as well as see which phone is being used.  You can connect up to 16 phones, I think.   Again, with that max of 4 CO line coming in.

The 1080 has the answering machine, but can only answer one call and one line at a time.

We are using it in an office with three or four offices and it works fine for us.

We also utilize the phone companies VM service and not the 1080 answering machine.

I was under the impression that this phone has caller ID. I just spoke with an ATT rep who said the 1040 DOESN'T support caller ID and that I would have to buy the 1070 if I wanted caller ID. Since this is contrary to what most websites say about it, can someone with this phone model clear this up for me? Thank you.

We have this model.  It does not support caller ID.  I thought it was strange as well.

Looking to start replacing  much older AT&T "Spirit" models. Anyone know if this is a suitible replacement to drop in?

These are analog phones, and I believe the sprint system is also analog.  If so, you should be able to use these.  These phones have 2 telephone (RJ11) lines and plugs that go from them.  Each line covers 2 telephone numbers.  If you have 4 lines, then you need to plug both telephone lines into a jack in your wall.  I am not sure how the Sprint system ran its lines for the phone.  If they are all bundled together in one over sized cable, you would need a telephone person to likely re-run wires and add normal RJ11 female plugs in each phone location.  Hope this helps.

How good is the speakerphone? I've seen reviews on other websites that have complained about the quality of it. We use speakerphone frequently, so I'm hesitant to spend the money if it's subpar.

I use mine all the time.  It is fine.  Not audiophile quality, but usable in a relatively quiet environment.  If it is noisy around where you are trying to use it as a speakerphone, all bets are off.

I am putting 4 phones into a new office. Do i need each phone to have an answering machine? Or just one with the answering  machine at the reception desk and non answering in the offices?
