HI, IS THIS UNIT WINDOWS 7 AND 8 COMPATIBAL?

Yes. I have been using 3 of these KVMP switches for multiple Windows 7 64-bit and 32-bit systems for over a year. The basic operation of the switch, at least for manual switching by presing the buttons, does not depend on the operating system(s) of the computers as long as they support USB 2.0 and DVI video, so this switch should work fine with systems running Windows 8.

My set up is like so... comp1 & comp2 - dual dvi outputs (one cord for each monitor) will this switch recognize that inputs 1 and 2 are from Comp1 and inputs 3 and 4 are from Comp2?

No..I'm afraid. You need a DUAL-MONITOR KVM (They cost more!!) The ATEN CS1764a has ONE Monitor INPUT. When you switch, it switches OUT to ONE Monitor via the cable. You Might try splitting the monitor OUTPUT with a DVI splitter adapter...but then you're in strange territory between Windows and the KVM. Odd are, it won't Work.
