molex ends male or female?

Difficult to answer since molex is a weird hybrid. The pins are female, but the plastic connector is male.

Could i take this adapter and connect i to a 8 pin adapter to go into my radeon 6970?

I don't know but suspect the answer is no.  The purpose of this cable is to convert a serial ATA power connector from a newer power supply harness into an older style 4 pin molex power connector which would be used on older hard drives or optical drives.
