Is the AVG Anti-Virus 2015 - 1 PC/1Year compatible with Windows 8.1?

Yes it is compatible. I have installed it several times on win8. After installing, you should go to the Advanced Options / Schedules and enable the Scheduled Scan (and check/set whichever days/time you want it to scan your machine) - it comes defaulted to not enabled.

What is the difference between this version and the free version on the internet?

paid version has file shredder and online shield.
