Question 1

Can this case be laid flat on its side?  I'm building a system for my son who will be going off to college next year.  I like this case's slim design, but I'm concerned he'll want to lay it flat rather than standing.

You can but Id really not recommend it. This tower is relatively thin and should be able to fit in most tight situations. The person I built this unit for had a desk space of about 4 feet and had a bunch of little things. This stands next to the monitor, as well as everything else, and fits fine.

The reason I woudlnt recommend laying it on its side is because you effectively loose a vent that way. When a system like this gets this small, you need as much cooling capacity as possible in order to keep the parts running efficiently.

the picture on newegg looks like theres no vent for the power supply, this cant be true correct?

There is a vent on the other side of the case, on the side closest to the AZZA logo. The power supply intakes from that side and vents its exhaust out of the front of the case.

Hello,

Ok I don't get this, it says it has EXTERNAL optical drive slots; not internal?  What does that mean?  So that slit in the front is not for an internal optical drive then?  I guess I'm not clear on what drive this should use.

There is one internal slot for an optical drive, and that slit is where it is.  The hard drive support case doubles as the support for the optical drive.  Because of size constraints, you need a slim optical drive.  For reference, I use an LG BT30N.  If you decide to get this case as well as a slim optical drive, you should note that you might need an adapter for "slimline SATA to SATA" (depends on the drive you get).  As for external drives, I'm pretty sure that most can simply connect via USB, so you'd have plenty of ports for those.

Has anybody had any issues with the riser ribbon? my computer seems to run completely fine until i load something graphically intense, and i know my computer is powerful enough to run basically anything atm.

The cable has been fine for me.  It's somewhat sensitive to not being pushed onto the card all the way.  I'm using a R7 260x.

Can this accommodate a Micro ATX motherboard?

Not in a way that you could put a PCIe card in there.  It's almost exactly as wide as a mITX board and a regular width PCIe card and there are only a few inches between the power supply and the board on the other side.

Question 6

Specs say mention external drive capacities. I have 2x internal 3.5 HDDs. Will these fit inside? I might like to add an optical drive and understand that it must be a slim form factor. Will the 2x 3.5 HDDs fit if I add a slim optical drive? Is there any place for 2.5 internal drives or will I need an adapter bracket?

If you put an optical dirve in, you an only fit 1 drive beneath it(3.5) or get a bracket to fit 2x 2.5.  If you don't put an optical drive, you can fit a 2.5 drive where that would go.

You can't fit 2x 3.5 drives regardless of if you use an optical drive or not.  If you get an optical drive though(a slim, like you said) I also ended up neeing the adapter that goes from standard wide and small sata to just the wide sata, can't remember the name of it off hand.

I have a h80i, which is pretty thick. Would it fit in this case with any arrangement of fans or no fans?

The H80i will only fit if either the fan or the radiator is mounted on the outside of the case. I can guarantee it will fit with the fan on the inside and the rad on the outside, but I can only speculate on the other way around.

Question 8

I have tried to find from AZZA's website and other locations the exact height limitations for an air based cooler for the CPU. Does anyone know this exact limitation?

I measured from the top of one of the stand off to the edge of the case, and it's 3 3/4 inches exactly, but that just one of the mother board spacers, given the height of the motherboard and CPU it may be 3 1/3. Also i used a standard measuring tape to measure this. Hope this was helpful.

I am wondering about the mounting options for fans on the top rail where the specs say that you can mount a 120mm or 240mm radiator. If I am not using a radiator, what fan arrangements does it accommodate without modification? I assume that you can mount 2 120mm fans side-by-side just as you would mount the radiator(s), but there appears to be holes in the center as well so that you can mount a single fan directly above the included LED fan. Can anyone confirm these options?

The holes you are referring to are designed to accommodate the shorter brackets, not a fan. The longer brackets are interchangeable pieces. You can put up to 2 additional 120mm fans on the longer brackets. Just be aware that you may need to remove the shorter brackets because the screws connecting them can get hit by the fan blades. I had to do this after I moved the included fan to the longer brackets for better airflow.

does it support 240mm water cooling?

it can but you will have to be careful of the width,thickness, and the outlets, also there isint alot of room for the power supply wiring, silverstone offers a short kit for their power supplies, there are reviews and build online if you do a search that will help you with it, Ive got a thin 240mm rad with fans for a 980 evga hybrid and a Corsair Hydro Series H5 SF Low-Profile Liquid CPU Cooler Cooling for high-performance Mini-ITX PCs CW-9060023-WW for the motherboard, much drilling and cramming was done to make it all fit, incl moving the power supply outlet at back, but truthfully if I was doing over, I would have justrun it out the front from under the cover,
