Question 1

does it require CD disk to install driver?

Accepted Answer

No. I bought this adapter for my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro ultra-book because it did not come with a Ethernet port because of how thin it is. The ultra-book also does not have a CD/DVD drive of any kind. When I plugged it in initially Windows recognized it and it worked immediately.

Question 2

Will it work the same and provide the same functionality on a USB 2.0 connection?

Accepted Answer

It will function on a USB 2.0 connection, but it is not capable of providing full 1 gigabit speeds.

USB 2.0 isn't going to provide better than 280 megabit performance.

Question 3

Anyone have this running with Windows 10?

Accepted Answer

I have a surface pro with windows 10 pro and use it any time I am docked at home and it is working great.

Question 4

With this product if you only have USB 2 what is the maximum speed you can get with usb. Can you still get a 1Gb speed?

Thank you.

Accepted Answer

No. Gigabit is a theoretical 128MB per second. The USB 2.0 port will limit you to a theoretical 60MB per second. Your computer will show you as having a Gigabit connection but you will not actually get that speed.

Question 5

have a Mac Pro laptop.
cira 2010
is there a plugin in this system to go to usb3?

Accepted Answer

I believe your Mac Pro laptop only has USB 2.0 ports; that said, the Belkin device is backwards compatible and will work on USB 2.0 ports.

That said, you may want to make sure it has compatible drivers (software) that works with OSX, as I've only used this device on Windows laptops.

There is also a similar device that has the Ethernet port but also has a few USB ports, in case you need extra USB as well with your laptop.

Question 6

why does it say usb to eth and not eth to usb? BELKIN USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapte

Accepted Answer

The product is described as 'USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter' because it is designed to connect a USB port on your computer to a Gigabit Ethernet network. This means that the data transfer starts from the USB port and goes to the Ethernet network, hence the name 'USB to Ethernet'.

Question 7

I have an hp pav. Dv 6700, 64 bit , is this card compatible with this laptop.?

Accepted Answer

This USB 3.0 "dongle" would work on most if not all windows computers with a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port.
However this model computer (HP pavilion dv6700) only has USB 2.0 ports so it would not be able to operate at the full gigabit transfer speed. You would need a USB 3.0 port to utilize the transfer speed of gigabit Ethernet.
