Question 1

...which ports are what on the device: input/output?  In  other words are all 4 USB ports outputs?  And if so, what is that "scraggly looking connector" on the side?  ...thanks.

I don't have it with me, but as I remember it, there are 4 Type A USB 3.0 ports (downstream) and one dual-micro upstream port. The 4 blue ports you can see are all downstream. The upstream port is on the side you can't see in the picture. I'm not sure what a scraggly looking connector is, but it came with an 18" (if I remember correctly) USB 3.0 Type A to dual-micro cable.

Works just fine.

Question 2

So my computer does not have USB 3.0 will I be able to use this  to get the 3.0 speed or is there something else for that?

You will only get the speed that your USB chip set is capable of, so if your computer only has USB 2.0 those are the speeds you will get.

How long is the 3.0 to 3.0 connection cable?

Pretty short, as is the additional required power cable. Don't know the exact measurement but maybe a foot or so for data cable and a couple of feet for the power.

How long is the USB 3.0 cable to connect to computer?

It looks about 18 inches long..2 ft at the most.  I am using an extender to connect to my computer.  No other issues.  It is working out very well for my setup.  I don't think I'd take an egg off for the length, but I wasn't even thinking about the length when I purchased it.

What is the difference between the Belkin F4U081 and the Belkin F4U058tt?  I can't find a difference.  Belkin only list one of these on their website.  Also what USB Hub Controller chip are they using, since there is via, nec and others.

I cannot tell you the difference since I only bough the F4U081.  It was one listed by Microsoft as compatible with my Surface Pro tablet and it has worked fine for that service.
