The unit gives a reading of the load in watts presently passing through it. If it's left on for long periods, it will give the average power usage rather than an instant value.

It also has the ability to estimate the dollar cost and CO2 generated by the load, but these are pretty fluffy features. The watts used is what you really want to focus on.

I have not done a side-by-side comparison with any other monitor, so I can't say what the accuracy of the readings are, but it has produced reasonable values for different things I've plugged into it. It seems legit.
