No, it plugs in with a 6' cord.
it's tiny and needs to be placed near your bed. Not noisy.
night light can be annoying.

I did not put the wattage meter on it to test. The unit cannot be pulling much. The wire is thin and ac adapter is small.

I rated this unit 5 stars BUT I have to take a couple of stars away. I use this by my desk to get some humidity. I live in N.W Indiana and the weather has been extremely cold" O degrees 
I have to change the bottle every 7 hours to keep humidity around the PC area. This unit uses a regular water bottle 16.9 oz.
 A few days later I purchased a SPT ultrasonic humidifier that has a 2 gallon tank, it ran 32 hours. I had it on full blast. I wouldn't have purchased the personal humidifier if I knew the output was tiny and had to change the bottle So often.

Can you use a glass water bottle with it? I like to avoid plastic bottles.

Personnaly never tried a glass water bottle.  It would fit and weight should not be an issue. I use only distilled water in mine, works fine.  Plastic is light weight and not hard to refill the water bottle.  Glass would be a better quality, and it would work no problem, just add a little weight, as long as it is 16 0z or less, it should stay stable.

Does it require distilled water, or is tap water ok for use?

It says you should use distilled water and I wish I'd known that.  I have to remember to get some and save my other bottles to fill with distilled.

How large a bottle can it take, and how often will it require refilling at maximum power?

Hi: I've been using mine for over a week now. It takes a 16.9 bottle which is what most stores sell. I'll fill mine up before going to bed at 11pm and it will be out by 6am at max.
