Question 1

Is this a 120 or 144Hz monitor? I was looking and the title says it is 120 how ever the specifications say 120 & 144.

So what is it?

I was thinking about buying the Asus 144hz but it does not have two HDMI cables like this one.

The monitor can work in either 120 or 144 Hz. The lightboost strobe is only available in 120 Hz but this is true for all high Hz monitors. Also keep in mind that only DVI-D cable can carry the 1080p 120 and 144 Hz. HDMI will only produce 60 Hz.

Ultimately I chose this monitor over the ASUS due to its PWM/Flicker free display, easier calibration(ASUS is supposedly a long process and the 3 button profile selection is nice switching between gaming and normal browsing), and all around better reviews of its color depths.

Question 2

The base seems a little tall. Can you put it down like on a basketball hoop or something or does it have to stay like that?

I just recently bought one of these, the monitor can drop nearly all the way down to the base (about an inch left of so).  It can also tilt forward and backwards (about 35 degree range), and rotate side to side (about 45 degrees left or right).  And the screen can rotate to a 90 degree vertical orientation.

Lots of mobility and customization for how you want it.

I just placed my order but have a question.

Is the monitor night and day from a 60HZ and what will I notice?

I currently run Asus Ml248H 24" 60HZ 2MS and switching up to this one due to the duel HDMI cables mostly

No , only if you play a lot of games . For daily use I would not spend the money . The monitor is very bright had to turn it way down to use it . The game look great when playing thou , their is a big differents when you move around there is no blur or wash out . Not a dual cable , it's a special cable that comes with the monitor , they call it dual cable , just make sure you hook monitor up with it .  Hdmi does not support over 60hz  have to use the dvi cable that comes with it .

Does this monitor display either 120 of 144hz over HDMI?

No it does not. Only with a DVI-DL (Dual Link) or the newest version of Display Port. The monitor comes with the dual link cable so you wont need to buy one. Also, to tell if a DVI cable is dual link, the plug will be filled with pins unlink a regular dvi cable which has a gap in the middle with no pins. I will say there is no noticeable difference to my eyes between 144 and 120. That could be because of my graphics card not giving enough fps in game though. In order to really take advantage of high Hz monitors your fps needs to match your refresh rate ie the closer to 120/144fps the smoother it will look.

How is that antiglare coating. Does it appear sparkly or dirty like monitors such as the dell u3011, u2711 or Asus VG248QE?

Not sure what you mean by "dirty" or "sparkly".  I don't have any issues with it.  Doesn't "sparkle" as far as I see.  This monitor is NOT good for HD video viewing!  In fact, the colors are terrible IMO.  It only does ONE thing better than any...and that's game performance!  It's as smooth and flicker free as it gets.  I play for hours without any eye strain.  I can't compare with the VG248QE...but so far, my gaming in BF3 is in the top 5% of the field.  No more missing kills or getting killed due to lag or slow refresh rates or tearing.  Better color quality would make this a 10/10.

if money is not an issue would you go with this model or the 27inch? the 27in doesnt seem as solid as the 24....as least in reviews.

That's a really good question. I probably would have stayed with the 24in since I sit pretty close to the monitor while I game. I love my 24inch and I have no reason to believe the 27inch isn't a great monitor also since it's literally the same panel and lighting scheme. Don't put too much faith in the reviews that bash on colors and viewing angles. With some color calibration software you can get these damn close to those rich and lovely IPS panel colors. I'd say pull the trigger if you want a great gaming monitor. Can't go wrong either way.

Will this monitor work 120 hz with an nVidia GTX 550 ti?

Definitely will be able to run at 120hz with the GTX 550ti as long as it's using either DVI/DVI-D or Display port. Should work just fine, but in my opinion upgrading your GPU(video card) in combination with the BenQ XL2420TE would be the best plan of attack, but if you don't have the extra funds for a better GPU solution then definitely the 550ti will be more than enough. Also you won't get the best quality in terms of graphical clarity with the GTX 550ti in some titles especially the more demanding ones like BF4..

Question 8

I bought this monitor and I cannot turn it on.  I am not sure if I am looking at a DOA issue or what, but I have tried multiple power cables in multiple sockets.  The touch sensitive power button only illuminates when the bezel is touched near it, then turns off.  Is anyone else having this issue, or does anyone have insight to offer?

I have the same issue. Though I am thinking of doing what Dylan has suggested. However I believe Dylan made a youtube video about this problematic monitor. In that video the monitor is on.. The OP Question says the monitor is off and wont turn on. My monitor wont turn on either. Will Dylan's 'fix' work on the monitors that are not powering on?

Will this monitor work at 144Hz with a AMD 7950 card?

I have not used the XL2420TE with an AMD graphics card on Windows.  I use Linux (Ubuntu Precise) with an HD7750.  AMD Catalyst driver installed per Ubuntu_Precise_Installation_Guide (Installing Catalyst manually).  The Catalyst driver is where I change refresh rates.  I haven't used 144 Hz yet, but I just tested the ability to switch to 144 Hz and it looked OK.  I run at 120 Hz about half the time.  I cannot get OpenGL to set a "stereo visual" yet, and don't know why.  Probably not the monitor's fault.

Does this monitor have a built in IR emitter, or would I have to buy one separately?

Unfortunately the BenQ XL2420TE does NOT have a built in emitter and a kit with glasses is necessary.  The BenQ XL2420TX "note X" DOES have a fully built in kit and glasses inside the package. The TE is 3D vision ready however with the LightBoost meaning that it is compatible and perfectly suited for 3D play with Nvidia Vision 2 the newest and best in 3D gaming.  Despite the lack of built in emitter I am very pleased with this monitor and it delivers amazing picture quality and response time.

It is important to note that if you wish to use the full 144hz refresh rate you must use the DVI-PC cord that comes in the package and link it to your graphics card, a regular HDMI cable will not support past 60hz refresh rate (average tv/monitor) thereby defeating the purpose and power of this monitor.  Furthermore consoles (even PS4) do not support past 60hz, although compatible with this monitor, this piece of hardware was intended for PC use. Do not use an HDMI connection with this high-end monitor.
