What is the USB cable for? I noticed it has a different port on the opposite end.

You can upload and download color and balance presets to your monitor using a USB. You can download them from gaming websites and benq themselves. If you're a big FPS gamer it's good for moving your settings to a new monitor say at a LAN event.

I presume you are asking for the measurement of free space between the stand surface (the surface that contains the indention slot for the S-Switch Arc and NOT the S-Switch Arch indention itself) to the monitor bottom.  That measurement taken with a standard metric/imperial ruler live while typing this is: precisely 1 and 1/8th inch (1-1/8" or 1.125 in) or 28.575 mm

Nope. I picked one up for cheap though. However, it does come with a dual link DVI cable, so there's that.

It does support 3D, just make sure your GPU, or device does too and that you have all required equipment.

Will a mini display to display port get me 144hz on this moniter?

Mini display has the same full support as a full display port. You should be able to get the full 144Hz display. You should make sure with your GPU that it can support those kinds of frequencies beforehand (a quick google search should do).

Are there any diffrences other than looks, and maybe firmware, between this monitor and the 2420z?

Purchased them both - returned the 2420z due to a DisplayPort bug that I had no problem with on the 2430t (could have been an issue specific to the 2420z V1 firmware).

The strobe/blur buster feature can also be controlled from the OSD, as well as access to more color vibrance settings.  I noticed a slight change in calibration necessary as well.  Finally, the USB ports are now 3.0 along with including a headset wire holder that pops out from above the USB ports.

it has LG's Dynamic action sync, im not sure side by side, but it helps immensly, also its an ips panel, so it wont match up to a benq low input lag panel
