Will this run Windows 7 & 8?

The very fact that this board comes with some of the latest technology from the past couple of years makes it a good candidate for windows 8.  It even has compatibility with older operating systems, but why would you want to?  What you need to worry about is the cpu.  I would recommend an apu with a gpu which can handle most applications and gaming provided you have enough ram.  I would recommend the Liano 2.7 ghz apu with a gpu.  This should handle all your graphics needs: otherwise you will have to purchase a graphics card.  I have both and they work magnificently.  I would recommend an amd hd 5450 or 6450 for optimal  performance.

Any amd 5450 or 6450 chip will work.  Depending on the apu you have installed.  They already come with graphics capability; HOWEVER, the 5450 can increase the overall performance some while the 6450 increases the performance even more.  You want to make sure that your power supply is at least capable enough to handle the card.  Most of these cards require at least a 400 watt steady power supply

Hi. I'm looking for a mobo combo that will economically handle VM functions.  the A75MG was recommended by someone on Tom's Hardware. 
What would be a CPU for that board, or as that is NIS, another cmbo that will do the trick?

Even in regards to economy I would still technically go for a different socket like the FM2 or even the AM3/3+.   If its used in a headless VM environment the APU wouldnt help you anyways. An AM3 board with a higher clock dual or quad core would be a better choice.

Question 4

I'm thinking about converting my Linux box that has this MB into an HTPC. My question is about the audio: if I get a DVI to HDMI cable and feed it into my receiver, will the audio be carried on the cable? Does the MB output audio via DVI?

Forgot to mention that the CPU is an AMD A8-3850.
