Are the colors off like some reviews say? I'm seeing some people say black is showing up as grey.

I haven't noticed a problem with the monitor I purchased.  We use it mostly for gaming (RTS /FPS type games), Netflix and web browsing.  All look great. Does it have the same image quality as the 32" Macs our graphics design team at work uses, no, but for the price, it's a good value.  If you're looking for an inexpensive monitor for general use, this is a good option. If you're very picky and/or need exact colors for graphic design or photo editing work, you should probably buy a higher end monitor.

People are saying that the speakers on this thing aren't all they thought if i use a headset would it be better?

Using this monitor right now actually... but honestly, I've never used it's speakers.  why would I?  If you are looking for more quality of sound, that's the very reason people purchase either headphones or external speakers.  I would wager most people prefer to have better quality sound that what comes standard anyway.  Most computers will have better sound boards (even on the motherboard), tvs... most people will purchase a theater system, or a soundbar at the minimum.  Just get a decent set of speakers, or headphones if you need to be more discreet... problem solved.  But the monitor itself... very nice.

matte would probably be the correct description, but not as extreme as some monitors with a matte finish i've seen.  While in use, normal room light has little to no effect. Very good monitor.
