Question 1

How stable is the stand and monitor?  I've had problems recently with monitors that shake when simply mousing or typing because the stands are inadequate for the size of the monitor.  Please advise.

I have the 34" monitor. The base is pretty wide so it has good support, much better than smaller monitors I've had that do exactly what ur talking about. I do a lot of coding and typing and it moves slightly but it's not too noticeable. When I'm moving my mouse it doesn't move at all. It's set about a foot from my keyboard. Hope this helps...

is the display matte or glossy?

Being that this is an IPS panel, you would think it is glossy, but its more middle of the road. I wouldn't call it matte, but I would not say that it is glossy either.

Question 3

Is there anyone who has had a chance to compare the picture quality of this again other ultrawides with the same resolution? I returned the LG 34uc98 because I didn't like it's picture quality.

Do you mean overall image quality or backlight bleed? Frankly I'm shocked you would return the LG for that reason. This monitor, the 34UC98 and the two Gsync 1440p ultrawides, use the same AH-IPS 10-bit panel. You literally are not going to find a better picture quality anywhere in the ultrawide space, I think only Samsung's quantum dot CF791 can compete with these, and freesync is broken on that monitor. As for backlight bleed, the newer LGs and this XR342ck from 2015 seem to have really refined AH-IPS, there is much less backlight bleed on those 2015 models than the ones that came before. My XR342ck has almost no backlight bleed whatsoever.

Just a note about this monitor, it is labeled as 4k and IT IS NOT.
This resolution is 1440p not the 2160p that you would see in a 4k monitor.  Also here is a question mark since it wants this to post ?

Just because there seems to be some confusion here, you are correct this is not 4K. I also noticed the error when ordering. However, jaswant j's answer here is a little off. The easiest way to think of resolutions is this: HD= 1280x720, FHD= 1920x1080, QuadHD= 4 times HD or 2560x1440, 4k (aka UHD)= 4 times FHD or 3840x2160. This particular monitor (Acer XR342CK) is simply Ultrawide QuadHD. The additional pixels that give it the 3440x1440 resolution do not make it 4K, they merely give it the 21:9 ratio making it an Ultrawide QuadHD monitor.

Also, to be totally clear, when we say "QuadHD is 4 times HD" we are talking about multiplying the total number of pixels, not the individual axes. In other words, multiplying 1280 by 4 and then 720 by 4 would give us a resolution of 5120x2880. This is NOT QuadHD. QuadHD is 2560x1440, because 1280x720= 921,600 pixels and 2560x1440= 3,686,400 pixels. 3,686,400 is exactly 4 times 921,600.

Here is a breakdown:

HD: 1280x720 = 921,600 pixels 
QuadHD: 2560x1440 = 3,686,400 pixels

HD (921,600) times 4 = QuadHD (3,686,400)

FHD: 1920x1080 = 2,073,600 pixels
4K(UHD): 3840x2160 = 8,294,400 pixels

FHD (2,073,600) times 4 = 4K (8,294,400)

What is the difference between this monitor and the acer xr341ck ?

Primarily, the XR342ck has a much more aggressive curvature (1900R instead of an almost flat 3800R). Next, the freesync range isn't quite as good, its 48-75hz instead, but thats just out of the box, you can still overclock the freesync range and bring it down to more like 35-75 or 30-75hz. Both have the exact same panel.

The width shown, 32 inches, is that with or without of the curve?

You're looking at the 32.13" dimension? That is across the whole width, straight across, side to side with a straight ruler. You would need at least 32.2" opening to fit the monitor into a cabinet, for example.
The diagonal of the visible screen along the curve is 34"

1. Is the back of this monitor glossy black or is it a brushed metal finish? Little hard to tell in the pics..

2. Someone asked earlier about nvidia usability but the answer didn't really hit the mark. So I want to reiterate, will this monitor achieve 75hz with an Nvidia GPU (980ti in my case) without artifacts, tearing, ghosting, etc. Please only answer if you've used this monitor with an Nvidia GPU and can speak from experience.

1.Back of the monitor is plastic with two textures, part smooth and part, I don't know how best to describe, but it is kind of reminds me of carbon fiber but tighter(it is plastic, just describing texture).   As far as looks go it is an all around attractive monitor in MHO.

How is this monitor for gaming using an NVIDIA GPU? Is it a native 75Hz refresh rate, or do you have to overclock it to get that? Any ghosting, lag, tearing or other screen problems when gaming?

The monitor will refresh at 60hz or 75hz selectable in your windows options.  In most games there will be a 60hz option and a 75hz option per resolution.  Some games like Overwatch will not support the wide aspect ratio but my card seems to upscale just fine.  You may want to research the games you play to see if they support 21:9 ratio.  Im running a R9 290x liquid cooled and with vertical sync on i sit stable at 75fps no tearing no artifacts. Havent used nvidias since 6800 you would probably want a 780 or better to push 75 frames stable with hugh settings.  I did get a HR DP cable from DVIgear the best i could find. Running 3440 through the included cheap cables may be asking tomuch.  If your into fps most of the pros use a 24" 1080p 1ms gtg with a 120hz refresh.  hope any of this helps
