does this chassis require rack rails to mount? or does the front rackmount tabs hold it in place fully loaded?

The chassis uses only its front tabs to attach to the rack. 3 holes on each side. It's sturdy. I have mounted a PC inside it and have it installed in a rolling flight case, which takes a lot of bumps, but never a problem relating to attachment.

It is a pain to access the motherboard however. After removing 6 rack screws, there are 4 small screws holding the top lid. It also is heavy.

All in all, it works well.

Question 2

does this case support full size pci and pci-e cards?

Yes it does, plan you build out thoroughly the case is shallow, depth wise, which can cause mother board interference with hard drive placement and power supply. The case is best suited for micro-ATX boards or smaller, but will fit full ATX motherboards.

Question 3

Can anyone who has recently bought this case confirm that it does in fact have three external 5.25" bays rather than the two pictured and listed in the specs? I was planning to buy it and of course picking accessories based on the specs but saw differences mentioned in the reviews.

Yes it has 3 bays on the left. The right side has no bays.
I don't see 2 pictured - I see 3 on the left.

I put a DVD drive in one of the bays on the left, and left the other 2 intact.
