what color does the power button light up? blue, white, red?

The power indicator is a very, very pale blue, but difficult to see unless you're in a dark room. It's not very bright, so you may not notice it from certain angles or when the room is brightly lit. It's located on the bottom of the monitor, at the far right (and is separate from the power button, which is on the back of the monitor).

For us console gamers (xbox one/one X specifically), is this monitor pretty solid for one?

The monitor is kind of small for Console gaming from a couch, but if you are asking if the hardware is good for this kind of thing, then yes,  the response time is as good as you can get for gaming and you will notice a major difference in your reaction times while gaming.

I need a monitor which will sit very low on the hutch above the my desk. Does this monitor have a height adjust which will bring the bottom of the screen close to the surface of a hutch or desk?

It swivels up and down and around to a good extent, it will go down almost to the bottom of the stand.

Is the 24in 1080p or the 23.6 4k one better?

For visual clarity 4k is the best without a doubt. I does come with some caveats however. If you plan on gaming on a 4k screen, in 4k resolution mode, you have to remember that you will have to have a very powerful graphics card if you want to run AAA games at decent frame rates. At the moment only the GTX 1080 (or better) can do this. From AMD you will have to wait for the VEGA series of graphics cards coming first half of 2017 and see how they handle 4k resolution gaming. If you just want the panel for everyday use, light gaming (DOTA2, League of Legends, CS:GO) then something like a GTX 1060 or 1070 should be fine. Just remember the panel is 60hz so it can only show up to 60fps, any higher framerate will not show any additional benefits.
Now the 1080p MG248Q can allow you to take advantage of extra GPU power because it is a 144hz panel. The downside is that it is a TN panel, so reduced viewing angles and colors are not as good (although it is adequate for gaming purposes and very bright). It is much less demanding on modern graphics cards so you can get away with an RX 470, 480 from AMD, or GTX 1060, 1070 from Nvidia and play most games at high or max settings and get high framerates. That is because of the native 1080p resolution being 4x less pixels for the GPU to render compared to 4k.

In the end it depends on your requirements, uses, and target performance levels. TL;DR if you have the money for a GTX1080 or better get a 4k IPS/VA panel @60hz or better and you'll love it. But if you love FPS games like CS:GO and Overwatch and want the best competitive edge, get something @144hz and low response times for that competitive edge. With the additional benefit of being able to spend less on a GPU because a GTX 1060 or RX470/480 is adequate at a lower resolution like 1080p.

My ASUS Display Driver Program doesn't even work and will not let me use the 144 Hz?

Make sure you're using a DVI cable or a display port cable to connect your monitor to your PC. Personally, I like the display port better, but DVI will also work at 144 Hz. If you're using Windows, right click on your desktop and select Display Settings. From there, click on Advanced Display Settings, then Display Adapter Properties. Go to the monitor setting and choose 144 Hz. I had a brief issue with mine where it reset itself to 60 Hz after I launched World of Warcraft, so I had to change it back a couple of times.

I don't know why the program is not working for you, but you shouldn't need it, as long as you follow the steps above. If those don't work, I would suggest calling ASUS customer support.

does it come with display port cable?

Mine came with a DVI cable, a display port cable, and an HDMI cable. Unfortunately, though, the cable quality does not seem very good-- my HDMI cable was dead right out of the box, and the DVI cable died shortly afterwards. My display port cable still works fine though, after over 6 months of owning this monitor. Plenty of people say theirs did not come with cables, so perhaps it depends on the seller you use?

How do i get the best picture quality out of this? Mines look yellowish when its displaying white colors

Does this work with Gysnc? Specs say it does but the rest of the internet says its a free sync monitor

This monitor DOES NOT WORK with NVIDIA G-Sync, it is a AMD Free-sync monitor only. Verified via the Asus Component Product Support line listed on their website. The Information displayed via Newegg is incorrect.

No it does not i had to run to a radio shack to get my dvi-d dual link so i could use the full 144hz.

Is the MG248Q the best monitor in this price range? or are the other ASUS, AOC, and BenQ alternatives better than it? if this question is answered, i will definitely buy one.

It is a Great Monitor, I have 2 Benq and this one is Great Especially if you have AMD Radeon Video Card.
